Symptoms
Customer (Unity or VNX) can chose to implement Protocol Encryption under CIFS Share / Advanced:
Turning this flag on will have negligible impact when CIFS is using a gigabit interface.
However if interface is configured with 10Gbit link (and CIFS clients are similar), customer will experience a dramatic write performance decrease when flag is on.
Flag off write performance with 10Gbit link across is ~450-550 MBytes/Sec sustained throughput in large file writes.
When flag is turned on (Note - client remount of share required) , write performance degradation goes down to 80-150 MB/sec.
Cause
The issue here is related to the underline algorithm used in the encryption process.

Resolution
Workaround : Turn off Protocol encryption on the share level to avoid that impact.
Fix :
Unity release 4.2 contains a major performance increase for protocol encrypted shares.
