Instructions

This article explains how to Generate a Self-Signed Certificate on a Dell EMC N-Series OS6 switch.

The command #crypto certificate generate is not saved in the router switch configuration; however, the certificate and keys generated by this command are saved in the private configuration. This saved information is never displayed to the user or backed up to another switch. If the RSA keys do not exist, the generate parameter must be used. To save the generated certificate and keys on the local switch and distribute the certificate across a stack, save the configuration. Otherwise, the certificate and keys will not be available after the next reboot.

Configuration

To generate a Self-signed certificate on the switch , input the following commands :

Commands Parameters
console>enable Enter the privilege mode
console#configure Enter the configuration mode
console(config)#crypto certificate 1 generate Generate the certificate
  • number-Specifies the certificate number. (Range: 1-2)
  • generate-Regenerates the SSL RSA key.
console(config-crypto-cert)#key-generate

Specifies the key-generate.

console(config-stack)#exit Exit

Verify Configuration

To verify that the self-signed certificate was generated use the below command:

switch#show crypto certificate mycertificate
