Precision Tower Power LED Blinks White Five Times

A Precision Tower desktop may appear to boot for a long period of time with no obvious indication that the boot is still in progress. A breathing feature has been added to the power LED as a sign-of-life indicator during long boot sequences.

The breathing LED behaviors:

• The power button LED blinks white five times and then turns off when the power cable is connected.
• The power button LED blinks white five times when the power button is pressed, before the computer begins to boot.

These behaviors provide a visible sign of life during power restoration and boot initiation.

Affected Platforms:

• Precision 5860 Tower
• Precision 7875 Tower
• Precision 7960 Tower

This is not a hardware failure or functional defect. A product change was requested to provide a visible sign-of-life indicator during extended boot sequences.

The power LED breathing feature is implemented starting with the BIOS version that is listed below for each platform.

• Precision 5860 Tower: BIOS 3.3.0
• Precision 7875 Tower: BIOS 2.4.0
• Precision 7960 Tower: BIOS 2.15.0
