Instructions

Method 1 - Physical verification (recommended when practical)

    1. Schedule or place the system in a maintenance state as required by your environment.
    2. Power off the server before removing any drive, following your operational standards
    3. Remove the drive and inspect the top‑cover label for the SSD PPID.
Caution: Removing a drive from a powered‑on system can cause data loss or hardware damage.

Method 2 - iDRAC Web Portal (no physical removal required)

    1. From a management workstation, open a browser and navigate to the iDRAC IP address.
    2. Log in using your iDRAC credentials.
    3. Navigate to: Overview → Storage → Physical Disks
    4. Expand the target drive by selecting the "+" next to the drive entry.
    5. In the Manufacturing Information section, locate the SSD PPID and compare it to the PPID list provided by Dell.
    6. Optional - Use the "Blink" function to activate the carrier LED for the identified drive.
    7. From the drive status page, select the "Blink" order to identify the correct physical SSD for replacement via the carrier LED.
Note: For detailed LED‑blinking procedures, refer to the iDRAC9 User Guide section on blinking/ unblinking component LEDs.

Method 3 - iDRAC CLI (RACADM)

    1. Run the hardware inventory command to list all components:
      racadm hwinventory
    2. In the command output, locate entries where Device Type = Physical Disk.
    3. Identify the affected SSD PPIDs from those entries.
    4. Use the RACADM blink capability to activate the carrier LED for the first affected SSD PPID:
      racadm storage blink
Note: For additional command details, see the RACADM CLI Command Guide for hardware inventory and storage blink.
