Avamar: Garbage Collection fails with the error MSG_ERR_GARBAGECOLLECT

The following event is generated regarding garbage collection failing and appears in the User Interface:

Symptom: 4202, Desc: failed garbage collection with error MSG_ERR_GARBAGECOLLECT 

The message may also be seen when attempting to start GC:

avmaint garbagecollect --ava

ERROR: avmaint: garbagecollect: server_exception(MSG_ERR_INPROGRESS)

An attempt was made to run garbage collection (GC) manually, but the garbage collection processes were already running.

Do not attempt to run GC manually while it is already running. 

If the error appears and GC was not run manually, contact Dell Technologies Technical Support to troubleshoot the error further.
