Removing the hard-disk drive assembly

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the microSD-card.
  3. Remove the SIM card tray for 4G LTE enabled systems.
  4. Enter the service mode.
  5. Remove the base cover.

About this task

The following image indicates the location of the hard-disk drive assembly and provides a visual representation of the removal procedure.

NOTE:The following steps are applicable only for computers that are shipped with a 3-cell battery. You cannot install the 2.5-inch SATA hard-drive on computers with a 4-cell battery.

Steps

  1. Lift and disconnect the hard-disk drive cable from the connector on the system board.
  2. Loosen the four (M2X4.5) screws that secure the hard-disk drive assembly to the palmrest assembly.
  3. Lift and remove the hard-disk drive assembly from the slot on the palmrest assembly.
