Dell Connectivity Client on iDRAC User's Guide
Overview
Dell Connectivity Client is a lightweight software module for Dell products and solutions to securely connect to the Dell backend. This enables Dell to proactively and rapidly support the product, and also enable additional capabilities like use of Dell AIOps for servers with ProSupport or ProSupport+. Dell Connectivity Client supports a direct connection from the server to Dell or can connect through secure connect gateway.
Most new PowerEdge servers come with the Dell Connectivity Client plugin enabled unless disabled during ordering. Once the iDRAC starts, the plugin tries to establish a secure connection with the Dell backend. If the Dell backend has a newer Dell Connectivity Client plugin version, the plugin automatically tries to update.
Once the Dell Connectivity Client establishes a secure connection with the Dell backend, either directly or through secure connect gateway, it enables the collection of telemetry data such as metrics, alerts, configuration data, and Technical Support Reports (TSRs).
This User’s Guide covers how to use the Dell Connectivity Client for both iDRAC9 and iDRAC10. There are separate versions of the plugin for each iDRAC version. For each version, there are two plugins: a lightweight Install plugin for initial setup and a full Telemetry plugin that collects and transmits telemetry data.
| Plugin Version | Platform | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 100.x.x | iDRAC9 | Dell Technologies provides a lightweight Install version of the Dell Connectivity Client plugin, either factory-installed or downloadable from the support site, to establish initial secure connectivity between PowerEdge servers and Dell Technologies. |
| 110.x.x | iDRAC10 | |
| 200.x.x | iDRAC9 | After the Dell Connectivity Client Install plugin establishes secure connectivity to Dell Technologies, the plugin automatically updates to the Dell Connectivity Client Telemetry plugin. This version maintains the secure connection to Dell Technologies and collects telemetry data—such as configuration, alerts, metrics, and logs—to support proactive service and integrate with Dell AIOps. |
