This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Solid State Drive (SSD) and a Precision 5540. The procedure will also include removing the Base Cover, Battery Cable, Option SSD and reinstalling them.
Removal
Base Cover
Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.
Turn the system badge flap over and then remove the screws.
Using a Torx #5, remove the screws that secure the base cover to the system.
Using a plastic scribe, pry the base cover from the bottom corners up each side of the system towards the rear.
Grasp the left side and the right side of the base cover and rotate it upwards to release the base cover.
Battery Cable
Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.
Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.

Battery Cable
Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.
Route the battery cable through the routing clip and connect the battery cable to the connector on the system board.
Base Cover
Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.
Align the base cover tabs in the rear and to the slots on the edges, press the edges of the cover until it clicks into place.
Using a Torx #5, install the screws that secure the base cover to the system.
Turn the system badge flap over and then install the screws.
