How to replace the System Board on a Precision 7875 Tower

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the System Board and a Precision 7875 Tower. The procedure will also include removing the Side Cover, Front Bezel - Hard Drive, Front bezel, Air Shroud, PCIe Holder, Hard Drive Assembly internal, Memory Module, M.2 heat sink, SSD - Internal, Hard Drive Fan Assembly, Bottom air shroud, Internal Hard Drive Cage, Powered Graphics Card, Intrusion Switch, Front Fan Assembly, Rear Fan Assembly, Serial PS2 Card, Heat Sink, Processor, VR Heat sink - Location 1, VR Heat sink - Location 2, Power supply unit, I/O Bracket, Rear Bottom Air Shroud and reinstalling them.

Removal

Side Cover

1. Identify the side cover highlighted in blue.
2. Unlock the side panel latch using a Phillips screwdriver.
3. Press to open the latch of the side cover. Pull the release latch to release the side cover from the chassis.
4. Open the side cover at an angle and lift the cover away from the chassis.

Front Bezel - Hard Drive

Front bezel

1. Identify the front bezel highlighted in blue.
2. Gently pry the retention tabs to release the front bezel from the chassis.
3. Rotate the front bezel outward from the chassis and remove the front bezel.

Air Shroud

1. Identify the air shroud highlighted in blue.
2. Hold the top air shroud at the grip points and pull it upwards out of the chassis.

PCIe Holder

1. Position the the system as shown in the video
2. Identify the PCIe holder highlighted in blue.
3. Disconnect the PCIe power cables from the connectors on the PCIe holder.
4. Unroute the PCIe power cables from the hooks on the chassis.
5. Push the PCIe holder lock into the unlock position.
6. Push the latch towards the PCIe holder lock, then lift and remove the PCIe holder out of the chassis.

Hard Drive Assembly internal

Memory Module

1. Identify the memory module highlighted in blue.
2. Pull the securing clips from both side of the memory module until the memory module pops up.
3. Lift to remove the memory module from its slot.

M.2 heat sink

1. Identify the M.2 heat sink highlighted in blue.
2. Loosen the captive screws that secure the M.2 heat sink from the system board.
3. Lift and remove the M.2 heat sink from the computer.

Solid State Drive - Internal

Hard Drive Fan Assembly

1. Position the the system as shown in the video
2. Identify the hard drive fan assembly highlighted in blue.
3. Disconnect the fan and thermal sensor cables from the system board.
4. Open the lid of the bottom air shroud cover.
5. Unroute the hard drive cable from the latch on bottom air shroud.
6. Loosen the captive screws securing the hard drive fan assembly to the chassis and system board.
7. Lift and remove the hard drive fan assembly from the chassis.

Bottom air shroud

1. Identify the bottom air shroud highlighted in blue.
2. Pull and release the tab to open the bottom air shroud cover.
3. Disconnect the SATA, thermal sensor and hard drive fan connector cables from the system board.
4. Disconnect the PCIe power cables from the PCIe holder.
5. Unroute the PCIe power cables from the bottom air shroud.
6. Unroute the SATA, thermal sensor and hard drive fan connector cables from the bottom air shroud.
7. Remove the screws that secure the bottom air shroud to the system board.
8. Lift the bottom air shroud from the chassis.

Internal Hard Drive Cage

1. Identify the internal hard drive cage highlighted in blue.
2. Disconnect the SATA power and SATA data cables from the connectors on the system board.
3. Loosen the thumbscrews that secure the internal hard drive cage to the system board.
4. Remove the screws that secure the hard drive cage from the chassis.
5. Slide and remove the internal hard drive cage out of the chassis.

Powered Graphics Card

1. Identify the powered graphics card highlighted in blue.
2. Disconnect the PCIe power cable from the connector on the graphics card.
3. Push the PCIe latch to open the PCIe door.
4. Lift the graphics card away from the graphics card slot.

Intrusion Switch

1. Position the the system as shown in the video
2. Identify the intrusion switch highlighted in blue.
3. Disconnect the intrusion switch cable from the connector on the system board.
4. Unroute the intrusion switch cable and speaker cable off the cable clip.
5. Unroute the speaker dongle cable from the routing guide on the intrusion switch.
6. Remove the screw that secures the intrusion switch to the chassis.
7. Remove intrusion switch along with its cable from the chassis.

Front Fan Assembly

1. Identify the front fan assembly highlighted in blue.
2. Remove the screw that secures the fan assembly from the chassis.
3. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
4. Lift at an angle and remove the fan assembly away from the chassis.

Rear Fan Assembly

1. Identify the rear fan assembly highlighted in blue.
2. Disconnect the rear fan cables from the system board.
3. Remove the screws that secure the rear fan assembly to the chassis.
4. Lift at an angle and remove the rear fan assembly away from the chassis.

Serial PS2 Card

1. Identify the serial PS2 card highlighted in blue.
2. Disconnect the serial PS2 cable from the connectors on the serial PS2 card and the system board.
3. Remove the two screws that secure the serial PS2 card to the system board.
4. Slide and remove the serial PS2 card off the chassis.

Heat Sink

1. Identify the heat sink highlighted in blue.
2. Loosen the captive screws that secure the heat sink to the system board. Loosen in reverse order.
3. Lift the heat sink assembly from the system board.
4. Use the alcohol pad to clean the heatsink (as shown in the video).

Processor

1. Identify the processor highlighted in blue.
2. Loosen the captive screws that secure the force frame to the system board. Loosen in reverse order.
3. Lift and open the force frame.
4. Lift the CPU carrier by holding the two blue latch points on the rail frame and rotating it to the vertical position.
5. Slide the processor out of the CPU carrier.

VR Heat sink - Location 1

1. Identify the VR heat sink highlighted in blue.
2. Loosen the screws that secure the VR heat sink to the system board.
3. Remove the VR heat sink off the system board.

VR Heat sink - Location 2

1. Identify the VR heat sink highlighted in blue.
2. Loosen the screws that secure the VR heat sink to the system board.
3. Remove the VR heat sink off the system board.

Power supply unit

1. Identify the power supply unit highlighted in blue.
2. Disconnect the ATX CPU processor power cables from the connectors on the system board.
3. Open the clips on the power supply cover.
4. Unroute the CPU ATX power cables.
5. Remove the screws that secure the power supply cover from the chassis.
6. Remove the power supply cover from the chassis.
7. Disconnect the SATA power cable from the ATX SYS connector on the system board.
8. Disconnect the PCIe power cables from the PCIe holder.
9. Open the bottom air shroud cover.
10. Unroute the PCIe power cables and SATA power cables through the routing guides.
11. Remove the screws that secure the power supply unit from the chassis.
12. Slide and lift the power upply unit off the chassis.

I/O Bracket

Rear Bottom Air Shroud

1. Identify the rear bottom air shroud highlighted in blue.
2. Remove the screws that secure the rear bottom air shroud to the system board.
3. Remove the rear bottom air shroud out of the chassis.

System Board

1. Identify the system board highlighted in blue.
2. Disconnect the speaker cable from the connector on the system board.
3. Remove the screws that secure the system board to the chassis.
4. Lift the system board at an angle and remove the system board off the chassis.

Install

System Board

1. Identify the system board location highlighted in blue.
2. Install the system board onto the chassis and align with the screw holes.
3. Install the screws that secure the system board to the chassis.
4. Connect the speaker cable to the connector on the system board.

Rear Bottom Air Shroud

1. Identify the rear bottom air shroud location highlighted in blue.
2. Install the rear bottom air shroud into the slot on the chassis and align with the screws holes.
3. Install the screws that secure the rear bottom air shroud to the system board.

I/O Bracket

Power supply unit

1. Identify the power supply unit location highlighted in blue.
2. Place the power supply unit on the chassis and slide it towards the back of the chassis.
3. Install the screws to secure the power supply unit to the chassis.
4. Route the PCIe power cables and SATA power cables through the routing guides.
5. Close the bottom air shroud cover.
6. Connect the PCIe power cables to the slots on the PCIe holder.
7. Connect the SATA power cable to the ATX SYS connector on the system board.
8. Align and place the power supply cover over the power supply unit.
9. Install the screws to secure the power supply cover to the chassis.
10. Route the CPU ATX power cables.
11. Close the clips on the power supply cover.
12. Connect the ATX CPU processor power cables to the connectors on the system board.

VR Heat sink - Location 2

1. Identify the VR heat sink location highlighted in blue
2. Align and install the VR heatsink on the system board.
3. Tighten the screws that secure the VR heatsink to the system board.

VR Heat sink - Location 1

1. Identify the VR heat sink location highlighted in blue
2. Align and install the VR heatsink on the system board.
3. Tighten the screws to secure the VR heatsink to the system board.

Processor

1. Identify the processor location highlighted in blue.
2. Place the processor into the CPU carrier.
3. Slide the processor by holding the two blue latch points on the rail frame and rotating it to the horizontal position.
4. Close the force frame and align with the screw holes.
5. Tighten the captive screws that secure the force frame to the system board. Install in order. Do not over tighten.

Heat Sink

1. Identify the heat sink location highlighted in blue.
2. Apply a pea sized amount of thermal material as shown.
3. Install the heat sink assembly on the system board and align with screw holes.
4. Tighten the captive screws that secure the heatsink to the system board. Install in order. Do not over tighten.

Serial PS2 Card

1. Identify the serial PS2 card location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the port on the serial PS2 card with the port opening on the chassis.
3. Install the screws that secure the serial PS2 card to the system board.
4. Connect the serial PS2 card cable to the connector on the serial PS2 card and the system board.

Rear Fan Assembly

1. Identify the rear fan assembly location highlighted in blue.
2. Install the rear fan assembly at an angle into the slot in the chassis.
3. Install the screws that secures the rear fan assembly to the chassis.
4. Connect the rear fan cables to the connector on the system board.

Front Fan Assembly

1. Identify the front fan assembly location highlighted in blue.
2. Insert the fan assembly at an angle into the slot in the chassis and align with the tabs.
3. Install the screw that secures the fan assembly to the chassis.
4. Connect the fan cable to its connector on the system board.

Intrusion Switch

1. Identify the intrusion switch location highlighted in blue.
2. Insert the intrusion switch along with its cable into the slot on the chassis.
3. Install the screw to secure the intrusion switch to the chassis.
4. Route the speaker dongle cable from the routing guide on the intrusion switch.
5. Route the intrusion switch cable and speaker cable off the cable clip.
6. Connect the intrusion switch cable to the connector on the system board.
7. Position the the system as shown in the video

Powered Graphics Card

1. Identify the powered graphics card location highlighted in blue.
2. Using the alignment post, push the graphic card connector firmly into the PCIe slot and press down firmly.
3. Close the PCIe door, locking it into position.
4. Connect the PCIe power cable from the connector on the graphics card.

Internal Hard Drive Cage

1. Identify the internal hard drive cage location highlighted in blue.
2. Slide and insert the internal hard drive cage into the slot on the chassis.
3. Tighten the thumbscrews that secure the internal hard drive cage to the system board.
4. Install the screws that secure the internal hard drive cage to the chassis.
5. Connect the SATA power and SATA data cables to the connectors on the system board.

Bottom air shroud

1. Identify the bottom air shroud location highlighted in blue.
2. Install the bottom air shroud into the slot on the chassis and align with the screws holes.
3. Install the screws that secure the bottom air shroud to the system board.
4. Route the SATA, thermal sensor and hard drive fan connector cables through the bottom air shroud.
5. Route PCIe power cables through the bottom air shroud.
6. Connect the PCIe power cables to the slots on the PCIe holder.
7. Connect the SATA, thermal sensor and hard drive fan connector cables to their connectors on the system board.
8. Lock the bottom air shroud cover.

Hard Drive Fan Assembly

1. Identify the hard drive fan assembly location highlighted in blue.
2. Align and install the hard drive fan assembly into the slot in the chassis.
3. Tighten the captive screws securing the hard drive fan assembly to the chassis and system board.
4. Route the hard drive cable to the securing latch on the bottom air shroud.
5. Close the lid of the bottom air shroud cover.
6. Connect the fan and thermal sensor cables to the system board.
7. Position the the system as shown in the video

Solid State Drive - Internal

M.2 heat sink

1. Identify the M.2 heat sink location highlighted in blue.
2. Align and place the M.2 heat sink over the solid state drive.
3. Tighten the captive screws that secure the M.2 heat sink to the system board.

Memory Module

1. Identify the memory module location highlighted in blue.
2. Install the memory firmly into the slot on the system board.
3. Press the memory module down until it clicks into place.

Hard Drive Assembly internal

PCIe Holder

1. Identify the PCIe holder location highlighted in blue.
2. Align and place the PCIe holder on the slot over the front fan.
3. Push the PCIe holder lock into the lock position to secure the PCIe holder to the chassis.
4. Route the PCIe power cables through the hooks on the chassis.
5. Connect the PCIe power cables to the PCIe holder.
6. Position the the system as shown in the video

Air Shroud

1. Identify the air shroud location highlighted in blue.
2. Install the air shroud and press the top air shroud down until the tabs click into place.

Front bezel

1. Identify the front bezel location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the front bezel tabs with the slots on the chassis.
3. Install and rotate the front bezel towards the chassis, then snap it into place.

Front Bezel - Hard Drive

Side Cover

1. Identify the side cover location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the tabs with the slots and install the side cover on the chassis.
3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, turn the side panel latch to the locked position.
