How to replace the SSD 2280 Primary on a Precision 7680

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the SSD 2280 Primary and a Precision 7680. The procedure will also include removing the Base Cover and reinstalling them.

Removal

Base Cover

Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.

Loosen the captive screws that secure the base cover to the computer.

Pry open the base cover starting from the bottom right corner of the base cover.

Lift the base cover starting from the bottom edge and push it towards the rear to remove it from the system.

SSD 2280 Primary

Identify the solid state drive (SSD) highlighted in blue.

Remove the screw that secures the SSD thermal plate to the SSD carrier.

Slide and remove the SSD thermal plate that secures the SSD.

Remove the screw that secures the SSD to the system.

Slide and lift the SSD from the SSD carrier.

Install

SSD 2280 Primary

Identify the solid state drive (SSD) location highlighted in blue.

Place the SSD onto its slot on the system.

Install the screw to secure the SSD to the system.

Slide and place the SSD thermal plate over the SSD.

Install the screw to secure the SSD thermal plate to the SSD carrier.

Base Cover

Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.

Slide the base cover into its slot until it clicks into place.

Tighten the captive screws to secure the base cover to the computer.
