How to replace the GPU Card on a PowerEdge XE7745

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the GPU Card and a PowerEdge XE7745.

Removal

System Cover

1. Identify the system cover highlighted in blue.
2. Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock counterclockwise to the unlock position.
3. Lift the latch until the system cover slides back.
4. Hold the cover on both sides and lift it away from the system.

Air Shroud

1. Identify the air shroud highlighted in blue.
2. Hold the air shroud on both sides, then lift it out of the system.

Auxiliary Air Shroud

1. Identify the auxiliary air shroud highlighted in blue.
2. Hold the auxiliary air shroud from the end facing the heatsink, then rotate and lift it out of the system.

Air Gap Fillers

Front Bezel

1. Identify the front bezel highlighted in blue.
2. Press the release button and pull the left end of the front bezel.
3. Unhook the right end and remove the front bezel.

Drive Carrier

1. Identify the drive carrier highlighted in blue.
2. Press the release button to open the release handle.
3. Holding the handle, slide the drive carrier out of the drive slot.

BOSS-N1 DC-MHS Module

1. Identify the BOSS-N1 DC-MHS module highlighted in blue.
2. Pull the BOSS air shroud towards the rear and lift to remove it from the system.
3. Open the blue latch to disengage the BOSS-N1 DC-MHS module.
4. Push the BOSS-N1 module forward to disconnect and slide it out of the system.

Drive Backplane Tray

1. Identify the drive backplane tray highlighted in blue.
2. Loosen the screws that secure the cable to the BOSS N1 module.
3. Disconnect the cable connected to the BOSS N1 module.
4. Disconnect the drive backplane cables from the backplane.
5. Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, loosen the screws that secure the drive backplane tray.
6. Slide and lift the drive backplane tray from the system.

DC-SCM Board

1. Identify the DC-SCM board highlighted in blue.
2. Disconnect the left control panel cable from the attic board.
3. Open the blue latch to disengage the DC-SCM board.
4. Slide and push the DC-SCM board out of the system.

HPM Board

1. Identify the HPM board highlighted in blue.
2. Loosen the screws that secure the HPM board cable on the HPM board.
3. Disconnect and remove all the cables connected to the HPM board.
4. Open the cable holder and unroute all the cables on the HPM board.
5. Remove the screws that secure the HPM board on the chassis.
6. Use the board holder and plunger to slide and lift the HPM board out of the chassis.

Rear GPU Gap Filler

1. Identify the rear GPU gap filler highlighted in blue.
2. Hold the rear GPU gap filler on the left and right sides, then lift it out of the system.

Rear GPU Air Shroud

1. Identify the rear GPU air shroud highlighted in blue.
2. Remove the screws that secure the GPU shroud to the busbar.
3. Hold the rear GPU air shroud on the left and right sides, then lift it out of the system.

GPU Top Holding Bracket

1. Identify the GPU top holding bracket highlighted in blue.
2. Pull the thumb plunger lockers on the bracket to release them, then slide the bracket left to remove it.

H200 NVL 4 way Bridge

1. Identify the H200 NVL 4 way bridge highlighted in blue.
2. Insert the removal tool into the gap and press until the NVL bridge board pops up.
3. Remove the H200 NVL 4 way bridge from the GPU card.

GPU Card

1. Identify the GPU card highlighted in blue.
2. Disconnect the power cable from the APB assembly.
3. Use a screwdriver or plastic scribe as a lever to lift the front GPU card.
4. Hold the GPU card by its brackets and lift it from the PBB.

Install

GPU Card

1. Identify the GPU card location highlighted in blue.
2. Align and insert the GPU card into the slot on the PBB.
3. Connect the power cable onto the APB assembly.

H200 NVL 4 way Bridge

1. Identify the H200 NVL 4 way bridge location highlighted in blue.
2. Install the H200 NVL 4-way bridge on the GPU card and press until it clicks into place.

GPU Top Holding Bracket

1. Identify the GPU top holding bracket location highlighted in blue.
2. Align and slide the holding bracket toward the right into its position until it clicks into place.

Rear GPU Air Shroud

1. Identify the rear GPU air shroud location highlighted in blue.
2. Align and place the rear GPU air shroud into the system until it is firmly seated.
3. Install the screws that secure the GPU shroud to the busbar.

Rear GPU Gap Filler

1. Identify the rear GPU gap filler location highlighted in blue.
2. Align and place the rear GPU gap filler into the system until it is firmly seated.

HPM Board

1. Identify the HPM board location highlighted in blue.
2. Holding the HPM board holder and plunger, lower the HPM board and slide backward until firmly seated.
3. Install the screws that secure the HPM board to the chassis.
4. Route all the cables throught the HPM board and close the cable holder to secure.
5. Connect all the cables needs to be connected to the HPM board.
6. Tighten the screws that secure the HPM board cable on the HPM board.

DC-SCM Board

1. Identify the DC-SCM board location highlighted in blue.
2. Open the blue latch on the HPM board.
3. Insert the DC-SCM board into the system.
4. Close the blue latch to lock the DC-SCM board to the system.
5. Connect the left control panel cable to the attic board.

Drive Backplane Tray

1. Identify the drive backplane tray location highlighted in blue.
2. Align and slide the backplane tray on the system.
3. Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, tighten the screws that secure the drive backplane tray.
4. Connect the drive backplane cables to the backplane.
5. Connect the cable to the BOSS N1 module.
6. Tighten the screws that secure the cable to the BOSS N1 module.

BOSS-N1 DC-MHS Module

1. Identify the BOSS-N1 DC-MHS module location highlighted in blue.
2. Open the blue latch on the front of the chassis.
3. Push the BOSS-N1 module until it connects and slide it into the slot in the system.
4. Close the blue latch to lock the BOSS-N1 module to the system.
5. Align and place the BOSS air shroud into the chassis and push it forward to fix it in place.

Drive Carrier

1. Identify the drive carrier location highlighted in blue.
2. Push the release button on the front of the drive carrier to open the release handle.
3. Insert the drive carrier into the slot and slide it in until it connects with the backplane.
4. Close the release handle to lock the drive in place.

Front Bezel

1. Identify the front bezel location highlighted in blue.
2. Align and insert the tabs on the bezel into the slots on the system.
3. Press the bezel until the release button clicks into place.

Air Gap Fillers

Auxiliary Air Shroud

1. Identify the auxiliary air shroud location highlighted in blue.
2. Align and tilt the auxiliary air shroud, lower it into the system and press the top surface until it is firmly seated.

Air Shroud

1. Identify the air shroud location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the air shroud with the standoff and lower it into the system until firmly seated.

System Cover

1. Identify the system cover location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the tabs on the system cover with the guide slots on the system.
3. Close the system cover by pressing down on the release latch.
4. Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock clockwise to the locked position.
