How to replace the M.2 SSD (Solid State Drive) on a Poweredge R7525

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the M.2 SSD (Solid State Drive) and a Poweredge R7525. The procedure will also include removing the System Cover, BOSS Module, M.2 SSD card and reinstalling them.

Removal

System Cover

Identify the system cover highlighted in blue.

Using a flat head or a Phillips screwdriver, rotate the lock counter clockwise.

Lift the latch till the system cover slides back.

Hold the cover on both sides, and lift the cover away from the system.

BOSS Module

Loosen the captive screws on the riser.

Press the blue button on the riser, and holding the touch points lift the expansion card riser from the riser connector on the system board.

Position the riser as shown so that the BOSS module will be viewable to remove.

Identify the BOSS module.

Pull and lift the expansion card retention latch lock to open.

Pull the black card holder before removing the card from the riser.

Hold the BOSS module by its edges, pull the card until it disengages from the riser.

M.2 SSD card (Solid State Drive)

Identify the M.2 SSD card highlighted in blue.

Remove the screw that secures the M.2 SSD module.

Pull the M.2 SSD module away from the BOSS card.

Install

M.2 SSD card (Solid State Drive)

Identify the M.2 SSD card location highlighted in blue.

Align the notch with the tab and insert the SSD into the connector on the BOSS card.

Install the screw that secures the M.2 SSD module.

BOSS Module

Loosen the captive screws on the riser.

Press the blue button on the riser, and holding the touch points lift the expansion card riser from the riser connector on the system board.

Position the riser as shown so that the BOSS module port location will be viewable.

Identify the BOSS module location.

Pull and lift the expansion card retention latch lock to open.

Pull the black card holder before removing the card from the riser.

Insert the BOSS module into the slot until its fully seated.

Push the black card holder to hold the card in the riser.

Close the expansion card retention latch.

Reposition the riser as shown to install the riser on the location

Lower the expansion card riser into place and press the touch points until the expansion card riser connector is fully seated

on the system board connector.

Tighten the captive screws on the risers and system.

System Cover

Identify the system cover location highlighted in blue.

Align the tabs on the system cover with the guide slots on the system.

Push the system cover latch down.

Using a flat head or Phillips screwdriver, rotate the lock clockwise.
