Removal
System Cover
Identify the system cover highlighted in blue.
Using a 1/4" Flathead or a Phillips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock counter clockwise.
Lift the latch till the system cover slides back.
Hold the cover on both sides, and lift the cover away from the system.
Air Shroud
Identify the air shroud highlighted in blue
Holding the blue touch points, apply firm pressure to remove the air shroud.
Heatsink and Processor
Select the processor heatsink assembly you want to remove.
Using Torx #T30 screwdriver, loosen the first screw three turns.
Using Torx #T30 screwdriver, loosen the second screw completely.
Return to the first screw and loosen it completely.
Pushing both blue retention clips simultaneously, lift the processor and heat sink module (PHM) out of the system
Place the heat sink on a flat surface with the processor side facing up
Processor
Identify the CPU highlighted in blue
Insert a flat blade screwdriver into the release slot marked with a yellow label.
Twist the screwdriver counter-clockwise to release CPU
Push the retaining clips on the CPU bracket to unlock it from the heat sink
Lift the bracket and the CPU away from the heat sink, and place the CPU connector side down on the CPU tray
Flex the outer edges of the bracket to release the bracket from the CPU while in the CPU tray
Using the alcohol pad, clean the thermal material off the heat sink.
Install
Processor
Identify the CPU tray highlighted in blue
Ensure that the pin 1 indicator on the CPU tray and the CPU are aligned
Ensure that the pin 1 indicator on the bracket and the CPU are aligned before placing the bracket on the CPU
Flex the outer edges of the bracket around the CPU ensuring that the CPU is locked into the clips on the bracket
Apply the grease in a quadrilateral design on the top of the CPU
Ensure that the pin 1 indicator on the bracket, heat sink, and CPU are all aligned before placing the heat sink on the CPU
Place the heat sink on the CPU and push down on the base of the heat sink until the bracket locks onto the heat sink
Heatsink and Processor
Confirm the highlighted processor heatsink assembly is the correct location to install or change selection.
Align the pin 1 indicator of the PHM to the pin 1 indicator on the system board
Rest the PHM on the processor socket
Push the blue retention clips inward to allow the heat sink to set into place.
Using Torx #T30 screwdriver, partially tighten the first screw (approximately 3 turns).
Using Torx #T30 screwdriver, tighten the second screw completely.
Using Torx #T30 screwdriver return to the first screw and tighten it completely.
Air Shroud
Identify the air shroud location highlighted in blue
Align the tabs on the air shroud with the slots on the system.
Lower the air shroud into the system until it clicks into place.
System Cover
Identify the system cover location highlighted in blue.
Align the tabs on the system cover with the guide slots on the system.
Push the system cover latch down.
Using a 1/4" Flathead or a Phillips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock clockwise.
