How to replace the Trusted Platform Module on a PowerEdge XE9680

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Trusted Platform Module and a PowerEdge XE9680. The procedure will also include removing the Power Supply Units, System Cover, Cooling Fan Cage Assembly, Airshroud, PSU Cage and reinstalling them.

Removal

Power Supply Units

System Cover

1. Identify the system cover highlighted in blue.
2. Using a 1/4" Flathead or a Phillips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock counter clockwise.
3. Lift the latch untill the system cover slides back.
4. Hold the cover on both sides, and lift the cover away from the system.

Cooling Fan Cage Assembly

1. Identify the cooling fan cage assembly highlighted in blue
2. Lift the blue release levers to unlock the cooling fan cage assembly from the system
3. Hold the release levers, and lift the cooling fan cage assembly from the system.

Airshroud

PSU Cage

1. Identify the PSU cage highlighted in blue
2. Disconnect the cables from the connectors on the power distribution board.
3. Disconnect the cables from the connectors on the power distribution board.
4. Using both hands slowly rotate and pull up the PSU cage handle.
5. Hold the handle with one hand and the rear of the PSU cage to lift away from the system

Trusted Platform Module

1. Identify the Trusted Platform Module highlighted in blue
2. Remove the screw using the security Torx 8-bit shipped with the TPM module.
3. Slide the TPM module out from its connector.
4. Push the plastic rivet away from the TPM connector and rotate it 90° counterclockwise to release it from the system board.
5. Pull the plastic rivet out of its slot on the system board.

Install

Trusted Platform Module

1. Identify the Trusted Platform Module location highlighted in blue
2. To install the TPM, align the edge connectors on the TPM with the slot on the TPM connector.
3. Insert the TPM into the TPM connector such that the plastic rivet aligns with the slot on the system board.
4. Press the plastic rivet until the rivet snaps into place.
5. Replace the screw that secures the TPM to the system board.

PSU Cage

1. Identify the PSU cage location highlighted in blue
2. Using both hands slowly rotate and pull up the PSU cage handle.
3. Hold the handle with one hand and the rear side of PSU cage, align and insert the PSU cage with the help of guiding slots at both sides of the chassis.
4. Rotate the handle down to lock position.
5. Connect the cables to the connectors on the power distribution board.
6. Connect the cables to the connectors on the power distribution board.

Airshroud

Cooling Fan Cage Assembly

1. Identify the cooling fan cage assembly location highlighted in blue
2. Holding the blue release lever of the cooling fan cage, align the guide rails on the cooling fan cage assembly with the standoffs on the system.
3. Lower the cooling fan cage assembly into the system until the cooling fan cage connectors engage with the connectors on the system board.
4. Lower the blue release lever and press to lock the cooling fan cage assembly into the system.

System Cover

1. Identify the system cover location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the tabs on the system cover with the guide slots on the system.
3. Push the system cover latch down.
4. Using a 1/4" Flathead or a Phillips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock clockwise.
