Removal
Base Cover
Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.
Turn the system badge flap over and then remove the screws.
Using a Torx #5, remove the screws that secure the base cover to the system.
Using a plastic scribe, pry the base cover from the bottom corners up each side of the system towards the rear.
Grasp the left side and the right side of the base cover and rotate it upwards to release the base cover.
Battery Cable
Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.
Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.
Option Battery
Hard Drive Assembly
Identify the hard drive assembly highlighted in blue.
Remove the screws that secure the hard drive cage to the palm rest assembly.
Lift the hard drive cage off the hard drive assembly.
Using the pull tab, pull upwards to disconnect the hard drive cable from the system board.
Lift the hard drive assembly off the palm rest assembly.
Wireless Module (WLAN)
Identify the wireless module (WLAN) highlighted in blue.
Loosen the captive screw that secures the bracket to the wireless module.
Lift the bracket off the wireless module.
Disconnect the antenna cables (black and white cables) from the wireless module.
Slide and remove the wireless module out of the slot.
Option SSD
Right Fan
Identify the right fan highlighted in blue.
Remove the screws that secure the right fan to the system board.
Disconnect the right fan cable (JFAN_2) from the system board.
Lift the right fan away from the palm rest assembly.
Left Fan
Identify the left fan highlighted in blue.
Remove the screws that secure the display cable bracket to the system board.
Lift the display cable bracket from system board.
Disconnect the display cable from the system board.
Note the routing of the display cable and remove the cable from the routing guides on the left fan.
Disconnect the left fan cable (JFAN1) from the system board.
Remove the screw that secures the left fan to the palm rest assembly.
Lift the left fan away from the palm rest assembly.
Memory Modules
Identify the memory module highlighted in blue.
Using your fingertips, carefully spread apart the securing clips on each end until the memory module pops up.
Hold the edges and carefully lift the memory module up from connector on the system board.
Option Heatsink
System Board Assembly
Identify the system board highlighted in blue
Pull the pull tab upwards to disconnect the display cable from the system board
Disconnect the power adapter port cable from the system board
Disconnect the speaker cable from the system board
Open the latch and disconnect the keyboard control board cable from the system board
Open the latch and disconnect the touch pad cable from the system board
Disconnect the touch screen cable from the system board (optional step - based on configuration)
Open the latch and disconnect the fingerprint reader cable from the system board (optional step - based on configuration)
Remove the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly
Lift the system board off the palm rest assembly
Audio daughter board
Position the system board as indicated.
Identify the audio daughter board highlighted in blue.
Remove the screws that secure the audio daughter board to the system board.
Then lift the audio daughter board from the system board.
System Board
Identify the system board highlighted in blue
Pull the pull tab upwards to disconnect the display cable from the system board
Disconnect the power adapter port cable from the system board
Disconnect the speaker cable from the system board
Open the latch and disconnect the keyboard control board cable from the system board
Open the latch and disconnect the touch pad cable from the system board
Disconnect the touch screen cable from the system board (optional step - based on configuration)
Open the latch and disconnect the fingerprint reader cable from the system board (optional step - based on configuration)
Remove the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly
Lift the system board off the palm rest assembly
Install
System Board
Identify the system board location highlighted in blue
Align the screw holes on the system board with the screw holes on the palm rest assembly
Install the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly
Connect the power adapter port cable from the system board
Connect the speaker cable from the system board
Connect the keyboard control board cable from the system board and close the latch to secure the cable
Connect the touch pad cable from the system board and close the latch to secure the cable
Connect the touch screen cable from the system board (optional step - based on configuration)
Connect the fingerprint reader cable from the system board and close the latch to secure (optional step - based on configuration)
Connect the display cable to the system board
Audio daughter board
Position the system board as indicated.
Identify the audio daughter board location highlighted in blue.
Align the screw holes on the audio daughter board with the screw holes on the system board.
Install the screws that secure the audio daughter board to the system board.
Turn the system board over.
System Board Assembly
Identify the system board location highlighted in blue
Align the screw holes on the system board with the screw holes on the palm rest assembly
Install the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly
Connect the power adapter port cable from the system board
Connect the speaker cable from the system board
Connect the keyboard control board cable from the system board and close the latch to secure the cable
Connect the touch pad cable from the system board and close the latch to secure the cable
Connect the touch screen cable from the system board (optional step - based on configuration)
Connect the fingerprint reader cable from the system board and close the latch to secure (optional step - based on configuration)
Connect the display cable to the system board
Option Heatsink
Memory Modules
Identify the memory module location highlighted in blue.
Align the notch on the memory module with the tab on the slot and slide the memory into the slot at an angle.
Press the memory module down until it clicks into place.
Left Fan
Identify the left fan location highlighted in blue.
Place left fan onto palm rest assembly and align the screw holes.
Install the screw that secures the left fan to the palm rest assembly.
Connect the left fan (JFAN_1) cable to the system board.
Route the display cable through the routing guides on the left fan.
Connect the display cable to the system board assembly.
Place display cable bracket on system board and align the screw holes.
Install the screws that secure the bracket to the system board.
Right Fan
Identify the right fan location highlighted in blue.
Place right fan onto palm rest assembly and align the screw holes.
Connect the right fan (JFAN_2) cable to the system board and route the cable.
Install the screws that secure the right fan (JFAN_2) to the system board.
Option SSD
Wireless Module (WLAN)
Identify the wireless module (WLAN) location highlighted in blue.
Align the notch on the wireless module with the tab on the slot and slide the wireless module into the slot.
Connect the black cable to the auxiliary (black triangle).
Connect the white cable to the main (white triangle).
Align the screw hole on the bracket with the screw hole on the wireless module.
Tighten the captive screw that secures the bracket to the wireless module.
Hard Drive Assembly
Identify the hard drive module location highlighted in blue.
Place the hard drive assembly on the palm rest assembly.
Connect the hard drive cable to the system board.
Align the screw holes on the hard drive cage with hard drive assembly and install the screws to secure.
Option Battery
Battery Cable
Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.
Route the battery cable through the routing clip and connect the battery cable to the connector on the system board.
Base Cover
Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.
Align the base cover tabs in the rear and to the slots on the edges, press the edges of the cover until it clicks into place.
Using a Torx #5, install the screws that secure the base cover to the system.
Turn the system badge flap over and then install the screws.
