How to replace the WLAN (Wireless Module) on a Vostro 3030 SFF

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the WLAN (Wireless Module) and a Vostro 3030 SFF. The procedure will also include removing the Side Cover, Front cover, Hard Drive Assembly, Disk drive cage, Wireless Module (WLAN) and reinstalling them.

Removal

Side Cover

Identify the side cover highlighted in blue.

Loosen the captive screws that secure the side cover to the chassis.

Slide and lift the side cover off the chassis.

Front cover

Identify the front bezel highlighted in blue.

Gently pry and release the front bezel tabs sequentially from the top.

Rotate the front bezel outward from the chassis and remove the front bezel.

Hard Drive Assembly

Disk drive cage

Identify the disk drive cage highlighted in blue.

Remove the screw to that secures the disk drive cage to the chassis.

Lift the disk drive and detach it from the mounting points on the chassis.

Rotate the drive cage and place it on the chassis.

Lift the disk drive cage away from the system..

Wireless Module (WLAN)

Identify the wireless module (WLAN) highlighted in blue.

Remove the screw that secures the wireless card bracket to the wireless card.

Slide and lift the wireless card bracket off the wireless card.

Disconnect the antenna cables from the wireless card.

Slide and remove the wireless card from the wireless card slot.

Install

Wireless Module (WLAN)

Identify the wireless module (WLAN) location highlighted in blue

Slide the wireless card at an angle into the wireless card slot.

Connect the black cable to the auxiliary (black triangle).

Connect the white cable to the main (white triangle).

Slide and place the wireless card bracket on the wireless card.

Install the screw that secures the wireless card bracket to the wireless card.

Disk drive cage

Identify the disk drive cage location highlighted in blue.

Place the disk drive cage upside down on the chassis.

Hold the disk drive cage upright and match its mounting points with the slots on the chassis.

Align the screw hole on the cage with the screw hole on the chassis.

Install the screw that secure the disc drive cage to the chassis.

Hard Drive Assembly

Front cover

Identify the front bezel location highlighted in blue.

Align the front cover tabs with the slots on the chassis.

Rotate the front cover towards the chassis and snap it into place.

Side Cover

Identify the side cover location highlighted in blue.

Slide the side cover towards the front of the computer.

Tighten the captive screws that secure the side cover to the chassis.
