How to replace the Control panel -Left on a PowerEdge XE9680

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Control panel -Left and a PowerEdge XE9680. The procedure will also include removing the Front Bezel, System Cover, Cooling fan cage assembly, Air Shroud, Front Top cover, SSD Drive cage assembly, PSB top cover, Side Wall Bracket - Left and reinstalling them.

Removal

Front Bezel

1. Identify the front bezel highlighted in blue
2. Unlock the front bezel by using the key.
3. Press the release button, and pull the left end of the front bezel.
4. Unhook the right end, and remove the front bezel.

System Cover

1. Identify the system cover highlighted in blue.
2. Using a 1/4" Flathead or a Phillips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock counter clockwise.
3. Lift the latch untill the system cover slides back.
4. Hold the cover on both sides, and lift the cover away from the system.

Cooling fan cage assembly

1. Identify the cooling fan cage assembly highlighted in blue
2. Lift the blue release levers to unlock the cooling fan cage assembly from the system
3. Hold the release levers, and lift the cooling fan cage assembly from the system.

Air Shroud

1. Identify the air shroud highlighted in blue
2. Holding the edges of the air shroud, incline the air shroud at an angle.
3. Move the cables away from the air shroud to prevent the cables from being pinched or crimped.
4. Lift the air shroud from the system.

Front Top cover

1. Identify the front top cover highlighted in blue
2. Slide the front top cover in the direction of the arrows marked on the front top cover and Lift the front top cover away from the system.

SSD Drive cage assembly

1. Identify the drive cage highlighted in blue
2. Disconnect the drive backplane cables from the connector on the backplane.
3. Loosen the thumb screws on the drive cage.
4. Slide the drive cage toward the front of the chassis.
5. Remove the captive screws securing the drive cage with metal plates on both side of the chassis.
6. Lift up the metal plates from both sides of the chassis.
7. Using both hands, hold and slowly pull the drive cage toward the front of the server.

PSB top cover

1. Identify the PSB top cover highlighted in blue
2. Using both hands pull to unlock the 2 plungers on the sides of the PSB top cover and slide toward rear of the system.
3. Lift the PSB top cover from the system.

Side Wall Bracket - Left

1. Identify the side wall bracket highlighted in blue
2. Press the blue side tabs to release the side wall cable holder.
3. Move the cables out of the side wall cable holder.
4. Press the center tab to release the bracket from the chassis, and lift it away from the system.

Control panel -Left

1. Identify the control panel highlighted in blue
2. Remove the screws that secure the left control panel and the cable cover to the system.
3. Disconnect the control panel cable from the connector on the system board.
4. Unroute the left control panel cable from the side wall of the system.
5. Holding the cable, slide the left control panel out of the system.

Install

Control panel -Left

1. Identify the control panel location highlighted in blue
2. Align and slide the left control panel in the slot on the system.
3. Route the left control panel cable through the side wall of the system.
4. Connect the left control panel cable to the connector on the system board .
5. Install the screws to secure the left control panel and the cable cover to the system.

Side Wall Bracket - Left

1. Identify the side wall bracket location highlighted in blue
2. Align the guide slots on the side wall bracket with the guides on the system and slide until the cover is seated firmly.
3. Route the cables through the side wall cable holder.
4. Close the side wall cable holder until the holder clicks into place.

PSB top cover

1. Identify the PSB top cover location highlighted in blue
2. Insert the PSB top cover on the system.
3. Pull the plunger to align the PSB top cover in its place and slide toward front of the system.

SSD Drive cage assembly

1. Identify the drive cage location highlighted in blue
2. Using both hands, hold and slowly push the drive cage toward the front of the server.
3. Align and place the metal plates on both sides of the chassis.
4. Tighten the captive screws to secure the drive cage with metal plates on both side of the chassis.
5. Push the drive cage toward the rear of the chassis.
6. Tighten the thumb screws on the drive cage.
7. Connect the all data, signal, and power cable(s) to the backplane.

Front Top cover

1. Identify the front top cover location highlighted in blue
2. Align the tabs on the front top cover and Slide the front top cover to the front of the system until the front top cover fits into place.

Air Shroud

1. Identify the air shroud location highlighted in blue
2. Tilt the air shroud at an angle and align the air shroud tabs with the system slots.
3. Lower the air shroud into the system until it clicks into place.

Cooling fan cage assembly

1. Identify the cooling fan cage assembly location highlighted in blue
2. Holding the blue release lever of the cooling fan cage, align the guide rails on the cooling fan cage assembly with the standoffs on the system.
3. Lower the cooling fan cage assembly into the system until the cooling fan cage connectors engage with the connectors on the system board.
4. Lower the blue release lever and press to lock the cooling fan cage assembly into the system.

System Cover

1. Identify the system cover location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the tabs on the system cover with the guide slots on the system.
3. Push the system cover latch down.
4. Using a 1/4" Flathead or a Phillips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock clockwise.

Front Bezel

1. Identify the front bezel location highlighted in blue
2. Hook the right end of the front bezel onto the system.
3. Fit the free end of the front bezel onto the system.
4. Lock the front bezel by using the key.
