How to replace the Memory Modules on a Latitude 5531

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Memory Modules and a Latitude 5531. The procedure will also include removing the Base Cover, Battery Cable and reinstalling them.

Removal

Base Cover

1. Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.
2. Loosen the captive screws that secure the base cover.
3. Using a plastic scribe, pry the base cover from the recesses located near the hinges.
4. Remove the base cover by loosening the sides and front.

Battery Cable

1. Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.
2. Using the pull tab, lift up to disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
3. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.

Memory Modules

1. Identify the memory module highlighted in blue.
2. Using your fingertips, carefully spread apart the securing clips on each end until the memory module pops up.
3. Hold the edges and carefully lift the memory module up from connector on the system board.

Install

Memory Modules

1. Identify the memory module location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the notch on the memory module with the tab on the slot and slide the memory into the slot at an angle.
3. Press the memory module down until it clicks into place.

Battery Cable

1. Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.
2. Push down to connect the battery cable to the connector on the system board.

Base Cover

1. Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.
2. Install the base cover and press the edges and sides until it snaps into place.
3. Tighten the screws to secure the base cover to the system.
