What can I print with Dell Mobile Print?

Dell Mobile Print can print the following types of content:

How does Dell Mobile Print work?

Dell Mobile Print is a mobile application compatible with the Android operating system. It provides customers with the convenience of printing photos, documents, web content and more, directly from Android mobile devices to selected Dell branded network printers.

Why must I have WiFi switched on to print?

Dell Mobile Print uses WiFi to connect with the networks that support printers.

How do I log on to the WiFi network that has my printers?

You can control WiFi network access from the Settings menu of your mobile device. Enter Settings, then Wireless & Networks, then WiFi Settings. From WiFi Settings, select your WiFi network.

I cannot automatically discover my printer. Can I add it manually?

Yes, as long as you know the IP address of the printer.
Select Manually Add Printer from the menu functions on the Printer Selection screen. You can now manually add a printer by entering the printer’s IP address or its UNC path name.

What is the IP address of my printer?

The IP address is the unique Internet Protocol address of the printer. You can normally find the IP address of your printer by printing a test page (refer to your printer’s user guide for details).

What printers can I use with Dell Mobile Print?

Why does Dell Mobile Print say that my printer is incompatible?

The printer may not use any of the supported printer languages. To verify printer compatibility, we recommend that you print a test page by going to menu functions, then Print Test Page.

Do I need to install printer drivers on my mobile device?

No. You do not need to install any additional printer driver on your mobile device. Dell Mobile Print discovers compatible printers automatically and you can print directly from your mobile device to the supported printers.

Must I use a PC to print using Dell Mobile Print?

No. You do not need to use a PC to print from your mobile device. You can print directly using the Dell Mobile Print app on your mobile device.

Can I print using USB?

No. Dell Mobile Print configures itself for direct printing to supported network printers via WiFi access to the network on which the printer located.

How should my printer be connected?

To print directly from your mobile device, your printer must be connected to the same network. This can be either an Ethernet network that has a WiFi access point, or a WiFi network.

How do I select the printer I want to use?

Dell Mobile Print will discover and list the available printers on the Printer Selection screen. Select the printer which you wish to use from this screen. Alternatively, you may manually add a printer using the IP address of the printer.

How do I select a document to print?

Documents can either be selected from the home screen of Dell Mobile Print, or shared to Dell Mobile Print directly from the document.

Does my phone or tablet need Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or Excel installed to print documents?

No. Dell Mobile Print supports printing these document types directly.

Why are there parts of my document missing when printed?

Dell Mobile Print can print most documents. However, some documents may contain formats, styles or fonts that Dell Mobile Print does not support.

How does Dell Mobile Print find my printers?

Dell Mobile Print can discover most printers on a network using automatic search capabilities. You can find previously used and currently available printers on the Printer Selection screen.

Is there a limit to the number of printers I can have in my printer selection list?

No.

My printer is not a WIFI printer but it is in the Supported Printer List. How do I get it to work with Dell Mobile Print?

The printer and the mobile device must be in the same network. Your network printer should be connected to a wireless router in order for Dell Mobile Print to discover it.

The Printer Selection screen provides a long list of printers. How do I find the one I want in the list?

You can sort the list by:
  • Favorite printers
  • Recently used printers
  • A-Z of printers
How do I refresh the status of printers in my printer selection list?

Hit the refresh icon in the top right of the screen.

My printer selection list shows printers that are offline. Why is this happening?

Printers will display as offline if they are not accessible.The likely reasons are:
  • The printer is switched off.
  • Dell Mobile Print is not connected to the same WiFi network as that printer.
How can I check the status of printing?

Select Print Queue from the menu in the action bar.

How do I select the options for printing?

When a document has been selected for printing, a Print Preview screen appears. From the Print Preview screen, select the printer name to view print options. Alternatively, you can click Menu and select Printer Options.

Depending on which features the printer supports, the options are:
  • Print range
  • Number of copies
  • Color (choose color or black and white)
  • Paper size
  • Collate
  • Duplex
  • Orientation
Why are some of my print options not available?

The likely reasons are:
  • Some documents may control the print options and not allow changes to attributes like page size.
  • The selected printer may not support some features.
