QDoes Dell have an environmental policy?
AYes! Customer stewardship and environmental stewardship are closely linked at Dell. Our mission is to fully integrate environmental stewardship into our business of providing quality products, best-in-class services, and the best customer experience. Please visit http://www.dell.com/us/en/gen/corporate/vision_policy_environment_environ.htm for details on Dell's environmental policy.

QHow does Dell reduce the environmental impact of its business activities?
AAt Dell, environmental stewardship is an integral part of our business. We strive to operate facilities to minimize harmful impacts on the environment, place a top priority on waste minimization, recycling and reuse programs, and pollution prevention, and design products with the environment in mind. Please visit http://www.dell.com/us/en/gen/corporate/vision_policy_environment_environ.htm for details on Dell's environmental policy.

QIs there a cost to me to recycle my computer hardware?
AYes. The cost covers home pickup, shipping to the recycling center, and recycling of the equipment.

QHow many pieces of equipment can I recycle for $15?
A You may recycle up to 50lb for $15. For example, the estimated weight of a PC is 30lb and monitor is 42lb, for a total of 72lb. The PC and monitor will need to be boxed separately, for a total price of $30. To estimate the weight of your items, see FAQ for estimating weight of items.

QWhat happens to my recycled computer hardware?
A Recycled computer hardware is delivered to Dell's recycling partners, who provide economical and environmentally sound management of the computer hardware recycling process. Typically the hardware is de-manufactured, although some usable parts may be removed for re-use. The de-manufactured material is sorted by commodity type (such as steel, aluminum, copper, plastic, etc.) and then either re-used to make new products or disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Not only does this approach help protect our environment by reducing the amount of material that goes to landfills, it may also minimize the need for raw materials in product manufacturing.

QWhat do I do with the data on my hard drive?
A Before you ship your product, you will need to back up any necessary data and remove all data from your hard drive. You are responsible for the deletion of all data that may be contained with the computer hardware. If you need assistance in transferring data to a new computer, consider purchasing the Detto Intellimover from Dell. This software and cable combination makes moving data from your old computer to your new computer quick and easy. Minimum system requirements do apply and this tool only transfers data, not applications. Please visit the Dell Home System Software & Peripheral website at http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ for more information.

QWhat if I forget to remove data from my hard drive?
AYou must remove all data from your hard drive before shipment. Dell is not responsible for any data left on hard drives.
