As mobile access and global workforces become the norm, enterprises must stay abreast of constantly changing challenges surrounding data access, operational efficiency, security, and data protection. Enterprises are implementing comprehensive, integrated, end-to-end messaging solutions that incorporate not only e-mail but also voicemail, instant messaging, and web and audio video conferencing.

With a wide array of new features and capabilities specifically designed to help enterprises address these imperatives, Dell and Microsoft®  Exchange Server 2010 are evolving to address today’s messaging needs.

What’s New in Exchange 2010

As the cornerstone of any Unified Communications solution, Microsoft Exchange 2010 offers new features and functionality that help improve user productivity, while taking advantage of a cost-efficient infrastructure.
  • Reduction in Disk IO: Exchange 2010 delivers up to a 90% reduction in disk IO compared to Exchange 2003, which provides the option to use low cost near-line SAS and SATA disks for even large organizations with demanding email users.
  • Enhancements to High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Building on the native replication capabilities introduced in Exchange Server 2007, users of Exchange 2010 can benefit from greater uptime and lower operational costs, while administrators can experience more flexibility to perform routine system maintenance.
  • Single Access to Communications: Exchange 2010 offers new productivity features that can help users more easily organize and prioritize communications in their inboxes. With functionality such as Conversation View and View Shared Calendar and Contacts, users have even more tools to communicate effectively.
  • Support for 10GB Mailboxes: Database performance improvements, along with the aforementioned reduction in disk IO, makes 10 GB mailboxes a reality without the manageability, cost and performance concerns present in previous versions of Exchange.

A Blue Print for Success

Deplolying Exchange 2010 on the latest generation of Dell servers and storage can offer your organization enhanced user productivity on a significantly more efficient infrastructure.

While new features in Exchange 2010 combined with the different storage systems and server form factors available can provide a dizzying number of architectural options, Dell simplifies deployment by providing two basic architecture models that optimize the synergies of both the new Exchange features and Dell server and storage platforms, allowing you to get the most out of Exchange 2010.
  • Agile Consolidated: Many organizations are turning to consolidation and virtualization to maximize existing resources, provide flexibility in deployment and operations, and build the dynamic data center of thefuture. This model is designed to enable Exchange 2010 to be deployed into this paradigm of centralized storage and virtualization readiness.
  • Simple Distributed: This model capitalizes on the significantly reduced IO and new high availability features of Exchange 2010 to provide a simple, streamlined and low cost infrastructure that distributes the Exchange workload across clustered “bricks” of servers and storage…in many cases not even requiring external storage even for a large organization with large mailboxes.

Both models have been optimized to meet a different set of design requirements and goals but each with built-in options to be adaptable to your unique environment.
