This article will explain you what is the Alienware Command Center and steps you can follow in case it is not behaving as expected.


1. What is the Alienware Command Center?

The Alienware Command Center is an exclusive software that integrates in a single user-friendly interface applications designed to control features of your Alienware Computer. It comes pre-installed in your system.

To launch it, just double click the Alienware Command Center icon in your desktop or if you prefer, it can be also launched from the Windows Start menu.

Most of the within Command Center applications are found on every Alienware computer, however; some of them are available only in Desktops and some other only in Laptops. Next you can find a summary of them:

Alienware's unique lighting system, AlienFX lets you choose from an array of color and transition effects across multiple distinct zones on the computer.

AlienFusion gives you access to your Alienware's power management controls so you can decide when you need maximum performance or when you can scale back for more everyday programs, increasing energy efficiency and extending battery life in the case of laptops.
AlienAdrenaline enables you to launch games with pre-defined system environments and actions. This Game mode enables users to create a custom shortcut that launches a game with a pre-defined system environment and sequence of actions. AlienAdrenaline also enables real-time performance monitoring and enables the user to record from the performance monitor.

AlienTouch allows you to change the Touchpad settings on your Alienware Laptop Computer. Tapping, Sensitivity and Virtual Scrolling are the options available under AlienTouch.
AlienTactX allows you to change the settings for the Macro keys*. The TactX window allows to change color schemes for the Macro Keys and set the shortcut options.
Note: *Macro Keys featured only in some Alienware Laptop models and on the Alienware TactX Keyboard.
Thermal Controls featured in selected Alienware Desktop systems give you access to your Alienware's management thermal system controls so you can monitor thermal status, adjust thermal control of system fans, and change the status of active venting.

This feature currently available only in the Alienware Area-51 R2 enables you to monitor CPU, DRAM and the Overclocking Profile.

2. What if Command Center is not working properly?

The Alienware Command Center may stop behaving as expected after a recent software or hardware change, for example a Windows or Driver update. If this happens it is recommended to:

  • Drain all power from the computer. This process consists on:
    • Turn off the computer
    • Unplug the power cable and battery (for laptops)
    • Press and hold the power button for about 20 seconds (the computer is not expected to turn ON)
    • Reconnect the power cable
    • Turn the system on
  • Update the computer BIOS to the latest version available at dell.com/support
  • Uninstall and Reinstall the Alienware Command Center Software.

However, please perform the following steps instead if the issue you are experiencing is related to:

First go to the AlienxFX taskbar icon and make sure these options are checked:

  • Dim Lighting Zones.
  • Keep Status Zones on During Go Dark.

Note: Note: If you choose the "Go Dark" option please be aware that all system lights will go off therefore to enable all lights back again choose the "Go light" option.

In case you have done that already and issue persists, run the AlienFX Tester as shown on the following video:

If the AlienFX Tester works fine then:

  • Uninstall the Alienware Command Center from your system.
  • Uninstall the .NET Framework 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Install the .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.5. You can get them from here.
  • Download the latest Alienware Command Center from our website and install it. For reference on how to do it you can check the Drivers for your Alienware Computer video.
  • If issue persists please go to "Control Panel", "Programs and Features" and choose uninstall Command Center, when setup loads, run the "Repair" option. This will solve any software corruption in the AlienFX firmware while installing.


The symptoms for this one include scenarios like:

  • AlienTouch application will not work at all.
  • Virtual Scrolling not working when opening AlienTouch.
  • ".Net Framework error" message when opening Alien Touch.

To fix it:

  • Go to the Control Panel and Uninstall:
    • The Alienware Command Center application.
    • The Synaptics Touch Pad driver.
  • Download and Install the latest Synaptics Touch Pad Driver (15.0.15 or newer).
  • Download and install the latest Alienware Command Center Software. You can use as reference this video.
  • Restart the computer.

Note: Note: Be sure to have the .Net Framework 4.0 installed before installing the latest Command Center.

Make sure you have saved your Alienware Command Center profile by checking if it is at the following location:

If the profile is there then:

  • Uninstall the Alienware Command Center.
  • Make sure the Master IO Filter Driver is removed from Device Manager. If it is yet there, remove it manually.
  • Turn off the system and drain all power from the computer.
  • Turn the system back on
  • Download and install the latest Alienware Command Center Software. You can use as reference this video.
  • Restart the computer.
