Dell U2713H and U2414H LCD display users may encounter an "No DisplayPort Cable" error message when setting up the display. Usually, the cause of the error is a failure to properly connect the cables between the display and a computer. The configuration of the On Screen Display (OSD) menu of the display can be another cause.
This display has 4 signal input options. The cable configuration from the computer graphics adapter must match the cable input to the display.

HDMI (Two port allowing HDMI connections to 2 devices) (See Figure 3)

DisplayPort is the most versatile connection type allowing both video and audio data transmission. It also allows for Multi-Stream Technology (MST) connections of 2 or more MST capable displays through one DisplayPort connection.
Mini-DisplayPort has many of the same features of DisplayPort with a smaller connector. HDMI is the oldest of modern display connections, also allowing for Video and Audio data through the same cable. Many TVs and multimedia devices use HDMI connections. Systems or displays without these cable connections require specialized adapters to connect to these ports.
If the On-Screen Display is configured for a different port than the active video signal, the main OSD screen will not display. To change the input on the display, press button (#3 in the figure below) and the input menu will appear. Use buttons #1 and #2 to highlight the correct input then press button #3 to select. (See Figure 4)

If you receive an "No DisplayPort Cable" error message when setting up the display. The first thing to check is the DisplayPort cable connection on the display. These displays have both Input and Output DisplayPort connections and the input connection "DP in" or "mini-DP in" is used to connect the display to the system.

If the cable connections are correct, then the next step is to adjust the OSD menu to ensure that the correct port is selected to receive the system's video signal. (See Figure 11.)

If the display still does not receive a signal. Try moving the display to another system that works with a DisplayPort configured display and see if a different display works on the affected system. Use a DisplayPort Cable that you have tested on another working system too, to ensure that the original cable is not faulty.
