Installing the system board

Prerequisites

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that are shipped with your product.
  1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in the safety instructions section.
  2. Keep the #2 Phillips screwdriver ready.
  3. Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system section.

Steps

  1. Unpack the new system board assembly.
    CAUTION: Do not lift the system board by holding a memory module, processor, or other components.
  2. Holding the post, incline the system board, and lower the system board into the chassis.
  3. Push the system board toward the back of the chassis such that the ports on the system board align with the corresponding slots on the chassis.

Next steps

  2. Install the following:
    1. processors(s) and heat sink(s)
    2. internal USB key (if installed)
    3. internal dual SD module
    4. integrated storage controller card
    5. cooling-fan assembly, if applicable
    6. cooling shroud
    7. PCIe card holder
  3. Reconnect all cables to the system board.
    NOTE: Ensure that the cables inside the system are routed along the chassis wall and secured by using the cable securing bracket.
  4. Follow the procedure listed in the After working inside your system section.
  5. Import your new or existing iDRAC Enterprise license. For more information, see the Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller User's Guide at dell.com/esmmanuals.
  6. Ensure that you:
    1. Use the Easy Restore feature to restore the service tag. For more information, see the Easy Restore section.
    2. If the service tag is not backed up in the backup flash device, enter the system service tag manually. For more information, see entering the system Service Tag section.
    3. Update the BIOS and iDRAC versions.
    4. Re-enable the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). For more information, see the Re-enabling the TPM for BitLocker users section or the Re-enabling the TPM for Intel TXT users section.
