AW3423DW, won't wake from sleep
My new AW3423DW monitor won't wake from sleep like my previous monitors. It's as if the monitor does a full shut down at some point after going to sleep. The only way to turn it back on is with the power button. This is annoying as I have other devices plugged into it via USB which aren't responsive until the monitor is fully powered on.
Tracking a post on reddit, other owners suspect that the monitor does a full shut down after performing the automatic pixel refresh on sleep. If that's the case, is there an option to keep the monitor in sleep after pixel refresh instead of powering off? Can I disable pixel refresh to keep the monitor in sleep mode?

Does the button on the computer turn off too? That means it is not the monitor. It's the computer that is in Hibernation. To change settings--Open Power Options, Advanced settings and turn Hibernation off or change the settings. Hibernation automatically starts after a set time of Sleep. That requires a brief push of the computer's power button to wake it up. It takes a little longer to turn on but all open windows will reappear.

Hi Mary G,
It's not an issue with the computer; the computer comes out of sleep as expected. The computer power light is on and my mouse (not connected to the monitor) lights are on. It's just the monitor that won't wake up. As I mentioned above, it's not just me, others are experiencing this issue. It might be a bug/issue with the monitor that it completely powers off after performing pixel refresh? Is this something Dell/Alienware can look into?

When the computer is powered down, the monitor will automatically do a pixel refresh indicated by a blinking power light indicator. At the end of the pixel refresh, the light will stop blinking and the monitor will shut off.
I'm in the same boat as you with my monitor. A mild problem, but odd nonetheless. I don't see an option to modify it in the settings.

Saw your post on Reddit and I too am having this issue. Any traction with Alienware or Dell on this yet? Who do we need to bug to get a fix?
For those wondering, the monitor turns off after Pixel refresh runs. Contrary to ALL other monitors produced that I have seen or worked with it will not turn on when the computer wakes from sleep, or boots from off. It isn't the power settings in Windows, it is the monitor shutting off completely when it should just go back to standby mode. This is not a feature, it's an annoyance without any recourse.
Update: Dell says -
This is working as designed. In order to meet the sleep mode power consumption of 0.5 watts, the Nvidia G-sync module will be turned off after the monitor enters sleep mode. This state ignores any mouse movement. Press any button on the front panel or power cycle to wake up the monitor.

I have the same issue with my AW3420DW. Every time it enters power saving mode for whatever reason, it doesn't power back on automatically when I move the mouse or type on the keyboard. It's beyond annoying. This is a bug! What works for me, with my two-monitor setup where I can still see the desktop, is to manually put the computer to sleep by clicking Start > Power > Sleep. After the computer enters sleep mode, wake it up by moving the mouse/pressing a button. The AW3420DW will power up.

Having the same problem with my monitor. Goes to sleep when the computer does. Doesn't wake up when the computer does. Totally unresponsive to pushing the monitor power button and only wakes up when unplugged and plugged back in. Very annoying. Msi, 4090, driver 1.1.0.0

Same issue here. Like you, my monitor won’t even turn back on with the power button or front buttons, only if I unplug the monitor from the computer and plug it back in. Quite annoying and not something you’d expect from a monitor in this price bracket. If you’ve found a solution by now, I’d much appreciate you sharing it.

Same here, my monitor won't turn back on. My light is blue still but nothing works. It only works if i plug/unplug. I have already updated this to the latest firmware as well.

@everythings12 Except it doesn't work. No button in the front panel or power cycle will wake up the monitor.

Years later and I am still having this problem. If I allow the PC to sleep for too long, the monitor won't turn back on. Power light just slow blinks white. Pressing power button does nothing. Restarting PC does nothing. The only thing that works is unplugging the monitor power cable.

I’m experiencing the same problem. My husband used this Alienware monitor on his PC a while back and ran into the same issue when sleep settings were completely disabled. Now that I’ve taken it over - since he upgraded to a curved display - I’m dealing with it too.
The monitor completely shuts off every time I step away from my PC or connect it to my laptop and don’t use it for about an hour. After that, the only way to get it back on is by restarting the system. No amount of button pressing will bring it back.
It’s extremely frustrating, and I won’t be buying any more Alienware products because of this ongoing issue. It’s been reported for years, and still no solution has been provided.
