I know this is an old post, but in case someone stumbles across it looking for help...

I just got a R8 today and had this exact problem. I left it on for hours and it just said it was upgrading components.

I right clicked the AWCC, went to "More", then to "App Settings", then clicked the "Reset" button... works just fine now!

Hope this helps someone out. I know it was extremely frustrating to me.

Hey.. not sure what system you have... but I just had that same issue last week.  Support assist froze during its monthly scan for updates, optimization, etc... I fixed it by going to dell.com, drivers and support.  From there, I let Dell auto-detect my system. A message came up saying that a newer version was available.  I let it install the newer version of Support Assist and then when I started up the newer version the issue was fixed.

Same thing that happened to @Galaxymater happened to me just under an hour ago. It didn't help the popup happened when I was testing out my custom PSU cable which borked out my R8 while the first update attempt happened.

After swapping back to old cable, second attempt by AWCC to self update failed with a message in red mentioning the update was not successful.

Closed AWCC and reopen it, this time the update prompted for Win10 admin rights which I allowed and it went through.

Is dell ever going to figure out how to get AWCC running properly ?

I had the same problem before. My way to fix it was uninstall AWCC, then try to install the app again. it works for me.

I had serious issues with mine as soon as it tried to update when I first bought this machine. Long and short of it was that I had to do a factory recovery twice. It's documented on here, and I was far from impressed.

This afternoon I ran a Macrium Reflect image of my C drive in order to try to get AWCC updated as I'm growing tired of having to turn off Wifi before launching it to stop it trying to update.

I let the update run fully, and, as expected, ended up with it only half working. The FX tab was no longer clickable and all the power options were missing.

Just restored my Macrium drive image to get it working again. As soon as I booted AWCC again it wanted to update. NO!!

I'd appreciate some input from anyone here from Dell. What do I (we) have to do to get this exceptionally flaky software to update correctly? Do I have to go an official support route? That would seem ludicrous, but it's beyond a joke now.

Home come we are able to do a factory reset once?

But the second or third time, we need to use a backup drive to install windows?

Dell advised me to use cloud for the second windows install. And it failed. This was when I had my Aurora R8.

I’m hoping the Aurora R9 doesn’t have the same issues. And if they do. I’ll be sending it back to Dell.

It is easily the most finicky software on my computer. Once I got it all square, I refuse to "update" it.

Yeah, but then when I don't update the program, it stops working!

Never let it auto update.

When this happens I call Dell. They uninstall it, and delete the root files. Then reinstall the newest version. This is what appears to work the best. This works with both SA (Support Assist) and AWCC.
