Area-51 R5, upgrade to new Asus ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 Ti
Hello,
I have an Area-51 R5 and I want to upgrade my video card. Currently I have an ASUS ROG STRIX OC 2080 Ti. I want to upgrade it with an:* Asus ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 TI GDDR6X OC 12GB ROG-STRIX-RTX3080TI-O12G-GAMING
Has anyone on this forum installed this video card in an Area-51 R5? I think my PSU is 850 watts (how can I check what PSU I have?).
Will it fit? And will it be compatible?
My specs are:
Area-51 R5
i9-9980XE
64 GB RAM
ASUS ROG STRIX OC 2080 Ti
2tb 980 pro Samsung ("c" drive)
2tb 983dct NVME 2.5 Samsung
4tb Barracuda Seagate
2tb Seagate
Regards.

Hello after not geting any info, i took a leap of faith based on a lot of research, and i was right, it does work. I can confirm that an Asus ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 TI GDDR6X OC 12GB ROG-STRIX-RTX3080TI-O12G-GAMING, works and fits very well in an AREA 51 R5 Chasis.
Well, i hope this helps some one trying to upgrade their AREA 51 R5.

Hi Argentum.
I'm looking to do the same, replacing my NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5 in the R5 with a NVidia RTX 3060 Ti. I can't find anything that would indicate a 'yes' it's not an issue, and I'm not in a position to throw away 00s of pounds on a card I couldn't use.
From viewing all the details from DELL and other sources it shouldn't be an issue ... but anyone who's done this and has a working PC afterwards would be good to hear from.
Thanks,

You can also just remove the metal GPU shroud like I did. Then you can fit even; the biggest 3090 in the area51 case.

Hi, I'm wondering if the, as of yet, unreleased Nvidia 40x series will be compatible with the area51 R5s with the 1500 watt psu.

Really, no reason it would NOT be.
As long as it physically fits and there are enough (properly pinned) PCIe-Power cables available. You definitely have the right power-supply for it.
And just so you know, not many Area51-R5's were sold, much less those users frequently posting here.
I like your UserName as I have a 20lb young-male Bengal-Cat. Rather, he allows me to provide a home for him here.

Thanks for weighing in Tesla. That's a big Bengal. My Bengal cat used to be about 15 pounds of pure muscle but at almost 16 years of age and chronic IBD, he's down to about 12 pounds. Still pretty mischievous though.

Mine is not a pure-bread, only about 70% Bengal. Yes, Mr. Shadow is very lean also.
Wow, that is old. I sent you a PM about your Bengal-Cat's health.

Thanks for the info, now I know I can upgrade my Area51-R5, what about the motherboard? is it compatible? I'm considering the 3090ti also, is it going to fit and compatible with the motherboard?

Not recommended when gaming at 1080P. 1440P does not show a bottleneck with that CPU.

I don't see where they specified their CPU . . . which CPU did you test?

Yes, and that is why it's not a good idea to upgrade the graphics card on these systems to a 3090Ti. You will end up with a bottleneck at 1080P.
