Aurora R10, Intel Arc A770, no video output

Question

Tried Intel Arc A770 on this aurora r10 (ryzen 3800x) latest BIOS 2.3.2 AGESA 1.0.0.7. The computer boots, no weird sounds, CPU and GPU fans run and GPU lights are on, but I do not get any video output. Monitor says no video signal. I dont see alienware boot splash screen.

I normally use a Radeon 6900XT so power delivery should not be an issue.

I put back other GPU and checked in the BIOS but I did not find ReBAR in the BIOS so I think this is an older BIOS/PC, but I was expecting the card to work even without ReBar.

The same A770 worked fine in an older Threadripper X399 1950X with ReBAR enabled and active.

For a non-Dell OEM graphics card to work you may have to use the OEM graphics card to F12 into the pre-boot menu and disable Secure Boot . . . then try the new graphics card.

It's likely because the UEFI environment on the R10 does not recognize the card.

Only the original OEM cards are guaranteed to work. Some other non Intel video cards have the same issue on some Alienware systems. You typically will get a black screen.

Thanks. Somehow until now no problems and i have used at least 5 non dell gpu. I guess I ran out of luck

Unknown . . . by me anyway. If you have Windows 11 installed that system will want TPM enabled. On my Area-51, with Secure Boot disabled, I am not able to turn on TPM. I am not an expert in this area at all, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable will drop in.

noob question. when I select disable secure boot it says I might need to resinstall Windows. is that a distinct probablity or is it bluffing?

It's likely not playing well with the UEFI environment on the Alienware machines.

These cards from Intel are very new and plagued by a host of issues. I personally would stick with the OEM card for now, until Intel has matured the BIOS and drivers a bit more.

Did you work up the nerve to disable Secure Boot? I don't think a 3rd party graphics card will with with Secure Boot enabled.

For Windows-10, it's a bluff.

For Windows-11 I'm not sure (never tried it) however, my last XPS beta-test laptop came with Windows-11 Pro and:
a. an experimental BIOS
b. SecureBoot mode off

... so sounds like a bluff to me.

Maybe go ahead and do a (full) Macrium Reflect backup-image first.

Not yet. but I am willing to try -interestingly I have used a few third party OEMS and they have all worked. but maybe as @Vanadiel mentions, this is a less mature GPU Bios.

Just to update anyone having the same issue. I removed Secure Boost as suggested. good news/bad news: good I did not have to reinstall Windows 11 (it worked as usual); Intel ARC still no video output. I can hear Windows welcome sound, but screen is black, monitor says no signal.

I will order an Intel NUC 12 extreme to replace this Aurora R10.
