Aurora R10, Ryzen 7 xt 5080 m.2 ssd question

Question

Soooo confusing,  my unit has a 512gb m.2 nvme ssd. I'm trying to add a 2nd one. Tried to do my due diligence but can't figure this out. Looks like i have an empty pcie slot, some say i have to get a sata pcie adapter some say pcie nvme. I bought a 1tb m.2 nvme ssd, adapter i got doesn't fit (too small for slot). Anyone have a link to purchase the correct adapter for this model/mobo?

A smaller PCIe adaptor will fit into a full size PCIe slot.

Slot size does not need to match.

I plan to add a second nvme drive in my system, I purchased a $10 card from Amazon that sits in a pcie slot and has the Nvme socket on it.

Just read the other thread on here with regards to what works and what works not. Some have reported failures. Most seem to be related to the link speed. The second full 16 lane PCIe slot on the R10, likely the only available slot as all the rest is covered by the GPU, only runs at X8. It will cause issues if the card requires more than 8 lanes.

Excellent article thanks for sharing,  after attempting this the green led on adapter isn't lit, seems seated and of course adapter only takes up half of the slot?

Thanks, for same model and specs as mine? Someone mentioned that the x8 is most compatible,  though I've seen adapters that say compatible with x4 x8 and x16. Also do these models use pcie 4 or just 3.0?

You can use the the 4.0 on the 3.0 card it just will not run at full speed. You can probably find a 4.0 card and spend more money on it as well as on the Nvme but I doubt you will see a noticeable difference.

Regardless which pcie gen it is, a single m2 nvme pcie SSD will only use 4 lanes (x4).  An X8 adapter would make no difference in the Aurora. In the Aurora r10 any additional lanes beyond x4 on the adapter card will be unusable (because the r10 doesn't support bifurcation).  Also, an adapter card will only use more than x4 lanes if it supports multiple SSDs.
