Aurora R12, BIOS won't upgrade, stuck on 1.1.1
Hey All
Just had my motherboard replaced last week after only having my unit for a few days. I am at BIOS version 1.1.1 and want to patch it to 1.1.5, but it it won't update. I get the pc to reboot after running the update via Windows or from boot menu. I get the pc start up for about 5 seconds, then it reboots and nothing happens.
I am suspecting the replacement motherboard has issues. I did notice in the BIOS logs entries in the motherboard about a month before I had the board installed, so suspect this board isn't new..
Any one know how to access logs to see why the BIOS is failing. Anyone got any I ideas before I spend another week or so getting Dell to look at it or replace the motherboard a second time?

How about try to clear CMOS by taking out the battery and jump?

Yeah did the whole clear bios with the jumper. All it did was reset everything, rebooted the pc a few times, but same issue.

So the pc works but you just can't update bios?
If so, try flashing 1.1.2 first.
If that won't work, save the .exe to a usb stick, reboot hitting f12, then select update bios from the usb drive.

I think the update is aborting, but you don't get anything on the screen, it reboots after the first attempt ..I was hoping there was a log like on servers that might show why its failing.

There is no such log, you may need to change the motherboard again.

I don't know if the most recent bios update not installing is a basis for mobo replacement since the pc otherwise works.
Anyway, I mean if you really wanted the update, you could also try downloading the .rcv format bios file (select other formats, not the .exe) and then initiate a bios recovery using the .rcv file. There is always a risk when updating bios though.

Also, don't forget you generally want to disable all oc settings before updating.

No overclocking currently set. I will probably have to open another case as no firmware will even run. They all crash out. I wish there was logs or at least some output on the screen , thanks all.

There should be something logged in the event viewer, if the application crashed.

Nothing in the event viewer as bios isn't applied within Windows. It gets set up to launch on reboot. However it crashes when it tries to run ater the reboot. Problem is the screen is hidden. I will try and enable boot messages, if possible...Every cmos I have seen has an option to show boot messages..

I literally just had my motherboard replaced and ran into this issue too, i cant update my BIOS and it will always shut down immediately and just get stuck...
Is getting another MB replacement the only solution?
