Aurora R12, pump fan failed twice in 2 years

Thanks, it looks like a good solution, but the website says « coming soon », so that doesn’t look like a viable option right now. On top of that I’m in Canada, so even after it’s released it may take a while to be able to purchase it easily up here.

Ah, thanks for letting me know. I’ll definitely check to see if I can find it.

The EVGA web site is out of date even Canada is ahead of their web master.

I just placed an order for one (got it at Newegg). I’ll report back after I install it.

1. It happens but not common. 

For example, the stock Dell-OEM (Asetek-clone) liquid-cooler in my Aurora-R1 is 12-years old. The one in my Aurora-R6 is 6 years old. 

2. Yes, both of those symptoms point to a clogged-up pump, broken impeller, liquid problem ... something like that. 

Hi everyone, here's my report back. I ordered the EVGA CLII 120 from Newegg.ca. The price was good at $90CDN plus shipping ($65USD).

I didn't film the installation process as I'm not good with a camera, but a quick Youtube search finds some good videos on how to take out the pump fan. It's pretty straightforward, but you just have to remove everything that's in the way (heatsink, memory).

The EVGA fan came with everything that I needed to reinstall. My only concern when I got it was that it was a 3-pin fan and pump, vs the 4 pin setup in the original pump fan. What I ended up doing was re-using the original fan since it looked beefier than the one supplied in the kit. Setting up the pump fan took about 20 minutes. Reinstalling the fan into the chassis is the hardest part. It's a tight fit and quite a challenge to put back.

When I powered back up I still got an error message, this time saying that the fan failed to initialize... I'm going to have to do a stress test to make sure it's working. The cooler itself is definitely working since the CPU is now at about 52 degrees instead of immediately jumping up to 100.

Actually, it’s 1,2,3. I forgot that pins are usually labelled right to left instead of the opposite :-). The error message is probably because of that, since there’s no 4th pin the bios thinks that there’s no fan attached. It’s working though as I can feel the liquid circulating when I touch the tubes. The top fan is working normally. I guess I’m stuck with having to wait a minute every time the computer reboots. I couldn’t find anywhere to bypass the test in the bios. 

Pins 2,3,4. There’s a slot in the back of the connector that fits into the slider on the pins so it’s the only way to connect it.

If you connected the pump power cable to the PUMP_FAN mobo header try moving it to the CPU_FAN mobo header. Also, if you can go into BIOS and set the CPU fan to constant 100% that would be good. Let us know what error messages you get in this configuration.

Yep, moving from the pump_fan header to the cpu_fan header cleared the error. It now boots fine with no errors. I went into the bios but couldn't find anything relating to the fans. I don't know how accurate the Alienware command center is, but in the fusion tab it shows the cpu fan speed at 100%. The CPU temperature is a nice 30C with no load.
