Aurora R5, replaced CMOS battery, says 'CMOS battery failure'

Question

I had an issue where I could not get the computer to turn on (I got lights but no beeps or monitor action). I thought to clear the CMOS setting by removing the battery for a half hour. When I turned it on again, I got the five yellow blinks indicating "CMOS battery failure." I replaced it with a new battery but I still get the five blinks!

Suggestions, please!

Did you remember to unplug the computer power cable and then hold down the on button for 5 seconds to discharge any remaining power before replacing the battery?

I did the discharge thing and the battery is in and working, yeah! Thanks!

Unfortunately, now the computer is cycling on and off, about once every thirty to forty seconds. No message get to the monitor, so there's still something going wrong. Bummer!
