Aurora R7, AWCC OC controls, disabling XMP
Just received my Alienware R7 and first impressions are amazing. A huge step up in performance compared to my ancient R3.
However, after settling in with it and making some adjustments, removing bloatware etc I decided to go into the BIOS and enable my RAMs XMP mode.
I have XMP-1 enabled, saved changes. But everytime I load up Command Centre/OC Controls, it says XMP is disabled and also keeps asking for a reboot for OC to take effect. So rebooting and nothing changes. XMP is confirmed as disabled in the BIOS.
Though if I dont open Command Centre, XMP remains enabled in the BIOS.
I am using HyperX Single Channel DDR4 that should be running at 2933mhz with XMP. Naturally I want to use my RAMS highest speed.
CPUZ is showing my DRAM Frequency 1396.7mhz
Thanks

There's a 2x multiplier involved. DDR stands for double data rate, so you have to multiply the base number by two in order to see what your RAM is actually running at. Based on what CPU-Z is stating, your memory is technically running at 2793.4 MHz. It's a little shy of 2933 but that could be based on timings and voltage.
For example, I only have 2666 MHz sticks in my R7. Here's what CPU-Z is showing me:

Thats really appreciated. Thank you for the info on this and glad to know I am running at full speed and XMP is working.
Thanks

No worries John. Glad to help.
BTW, maybe you can help me. Since my RAM is only 2666, XMP in the BIOS is grayed out. I assume the system will enable the XMP option once faster memory is inserted?

I'm on the latest version 1.0.17. I have a feeling that system predetermines RAM clock speed and if its below a certain threshold, leaves XMP disabled.
I really hate the Aurora BIOS...
