Aurora-R7, no audio through any audio ports

I have my r7 connected to a tv through hdmi at the moment. sound works fine if i select the TV as audio output. if i try to connect my external speakers to any of the back or front ports and select  'realtek Audio' in windows 10 i don't hear anything. I have all the latest drivers installed from the dell website.

i have read online that connecting through hdmi straight from the graphics card might disable the onboard sound and it might have to be manually turned on in the bios again. I had a look at the latest alienware bios but there wasn't any sound options?!

any ideas on how to fix this?

I apologise for all the run-on sentences ha

3. What is 2F-Audio ? Do you have a USB sound-card or headphone connected? The idea was to get this working with a minimum of simple/standard devices connected.

Just been through the process again because once i update the drivers in the device manager its gone.

I was wrong it is realtek and it is called: digital audio (S/PDIF) (Realtek audio)

Does that help? Is there anything else i could try from here?

Thanks

edit: no extra sound card or headset

What kind of dedicated video card to you have, and how many HDMI and/or DisplayPorts are on it?

1. Nvidia 8gb 1080, 2 hdmi, 2 dispplayport, 1 dvi as far as i can tell, it came with the r7

2. btw thanks for looking into this and being so patient

1. OK, then I count 4 ports that can handle audio, So these entries named:

digital audio hdmi, high def audio device (not plugged in)

Should be more-accurately and automatically named more like:

Nvidia Output - Nvidia High Definition Audio (not plugged in)

And, there should only be 4 of them named that (not 5). That's using my Aurora-R6 with GTX-1070 (a very similar machine and video-card) as an example and extrapolating some data.

In light of above, looks like you have a problem with your Nvidia drivers.

2. You are welcome. Yeah, everyone tells me I'm patient when it comes to computer and/or networking problems. I'm not as patient as I used to be.  However, I've found it's often required to fix things. It also takes EFFORT. Another helpful trait is being methodical with your troubleshooting.

i reluctantly agreed to have a dell 'technichian' have a look at it, because i already spent a couple of days of research on this which I am really not happy to do since it's a new prebuilt computer. that kind of defeats the purpose.

anyway i will report back

You are not the first to resent having to spend your time and effort fixing a new expensive high-end computer.

We try to help yall in this forum . But since it's rarely fast and easy (or it would already be figured-out ) ... in reality ... most people that feel that way should probably just return it and start-over with a different computer. Slightly beyond the short return period, contact Phone Support and use your extended warranty.

oh I'm well aware, as i said before I very much appreciate you and others having a look at this. it's great and rare that there is an active community that helps each other out.

the sensible choice here for me would be to return it, because clearly this unit didn't pass the quality control check or didn't get one. since it's already set up and i would LOVE to avoid the logistics and of sending it back and waiting for refunds, I will see what the qualified Dell person has to say.
