Aurora R8, 850W PSU failure
Looking for some advise. Earlier this week while my son was playing a game the computer went off. Completely dead appeared to be the power supply so brought it into Best Buy for a free check and sure enough a dead power supply on a PC just over a year old. Best Buy advised would be at least 3 months before they would likely be able to repair it based on how long it's been taking to get parts advising me to contact Dell.
The failed power supply was the 321-BEPU Alienware(TM) 850 Watt Multi-GPU Approved Power Supply with High Performance Liquid Cooling. Such high performance that it burned out in just over a year. Appears the warranty is only 1 year which is the hardware warranty which came with the PC. Quite poor for a PSU. Anyone else have issues with these units failing? Any recommendations for a replacement PSU which will fit the case and components and also power the DVD drive?
I contacted DELL's support and they advised they have no replacement 321-BEPU PSU's currently available. Great support on a year old PC. Appreciate any advise on getting this unit running again.

Historically, pretty good. Years ago, some (Huntkey made) models had fans with bad bearings, but that's about it. The Delta-made units are good (they also use them in the Dell business and workstation-towers).
I don't recognize that DPN. However, I think the same part can have multiple DPNs (depending on what machine it is in).
Ask Dell parts if they have:
Dell Part Number: N1WJD
PWR SPLY,850W,EPA,BRZ,DELTA
That is the one now in my Aurora-R6. Works fine. And while it's not recommended to swap modular-cables (wiring harness) between modular Power-Supplies ... you should be fine as (AFAIK) all OEM 850w units use the same ones (to allow quick in-field replacements in Auroras and similar models).
After repair, I suggest you get yourself a good UPS-Battery (like APC-1300 with AVR).

Also, if you use an after market PSU you just need a slimline adapter cable for the dvd drive, otherwise the psu size is pretty standard. I use an EVGA g3 gold in mine. A right angle sata power cable for the HDD will help if the psu has straight connectors

@speedstep. care to step out on a limb and suggest a more powerfull power supply for an Alienware R8? maybe 1000W unit? As an adult, I would not epxect you to provide a certainty, just any experience you might have had, been made aware of, about upgrading these PSs.
