Hello @Anonymous , thank you so much for your response. I looked at dell.com and used the "This PC" feature to see that my PC is supposed to have an 850 watt PSU. Would a bottom line Alienware R8 come stock with an 850 watt PSU? Or would you recommend me opening up the case and actually taking a look at the PSU? Thank you.
A quick way to double check is the 460w is nonmodular and the 850w is modular (cables can be removed from the back of the psu).
Also, the 850w has a second unused pcie power cable (for hooking up a second gpu) wrapped up in the metal swing out box. If you remove the psu there is a sticker with the specs on it.
OK sweet thank you. My PSU has some extra GPU power cables tied to the metal swing out arm. The cables are also modular. It must be an 850 watt. I will probably do a little bit more research just to be sure. Thank you!
Looking for an update. Did you upgrade the gpu? If so is it going well with your machine, or did you have to upgrade power supply or cpu? Trying to decide if I want to upgrade my r8 one last time, or start saving for a new rig.

Maybe a bit late for the author, I would say take a RTX 3070.
I would recommend the EVGA RTX 3070 XC3 versions (black, gaming or ultra gaming), or even maybe the EVGA RTX 3080 XC3 Black may be within budget.
Just need to replace the front fan ($20 + plastic ties + 1 hour installation).
This is why I chose the EVGA XC3, 112mm wide so no cutting the PSU door triangle.
