Aurora R8, cooling options, Hyper 212 EVO?
Hi, I don't like the liquid cooler than came with my Aurora R8. I haven't looked at the motherboard or case much... would the motherboard / case support a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO cooler? I don't know if the brackets are available or there's enough room inside. Before purchasing, I'd like to know if anyone else has installed this cooling solution in the R8.

And then there is this ultra low profile cooler, only 27 mm tall which will definitely fit R8.

I think, given the limited airflow and small form factor, the dell liquid cooler is about as good as you can get. If you experience throttling, you can always add an extra fan to the radiator for push/pull.

The simple answer is not a chance. The Alienware AIO uses the same base components as the H60, which is good for around 150W. The Noctua is rated for 95W. If you look at the manufacturer's rating, it says that this cooler does not support turbo boost or overclocking with an unlocked 9th gen CPU (e.g., 9600K, 9700K, 9900K). So you could use it, but you'd need to run it it's base clock, per the manufacturer.

The swing arm psu may be in the way of a tower air cooler such as Hyper 212 evo.

Yeah, one nice thing about the Corsair AIOs though is you usually don't need to remove the motherboard to install it, they are compatible with the oem backplate.

Yeah, thanks... that is a shame... I wonder if I could just run the computer with the case open and the PSU thing swung out? Would be ridiculous... I just dont like these water coolers. Thanks.

I have an Alienware so, it's just an "Alienware Power supply with CPU cooler", I dunno if it is similar to any other things, it is just some OEM thing. Any info you give will be helpful.
The good news is that I did get a stable overclock by raising the voltage, so I think the cooler is working OK. I'm from the oldschool tho, I just dont trust these cheap liquid coolers, Would much rather have a big honkin' heatsink/fan on there. Oh well.

@Anonymous Dude... that's great and all, but it's not EASY. I'm not trying to make an uber souped up system. I guess the case just doesn't have enough room for the PSU without the swing-out thing. Keeping the PSU outside the case seems rather extreme.
I'm an old man, just trying to get by. Oh well. I'd more likely just rip the guts out and install it in another case. Can you point me in a direction that would fit all of the guts in an Alienware Aurora R8?

I'm 43 years old and spent many years doing UNIX systems administration... not souped up? You painted the damn thing. You've got wacky unnecessary lights all over, and water cooling out the wazoo. I don't judge you for that, but don't tell me it's not souped up. That is souped up.
No way am I replacing the motherboard. Thanks anyway.

You can consider a low profile air cooler if you don’t like the stock AIO.
this one looks good to me: NH-L12S

its height is 70 mm. I estimated you have approximately 80 mm clearance from the cpu top surface to the back of swing arm psu closed. You can verify this by finding a 75 mm or 3” tall cube and placing it gently on cpu w a piece of paper in between, then carefully closing the swing arm to see if it can close smoothly without ramming into the cube.
