Aurora R8, or home built?

Hello all, I have been considering buying an Alienware Aurora r6 for some time now (1600$). I aim to hit 4k while maintaining 60+fps. I mainly play solo RPG's when I'm not working or schooling, and it helps to get into the game more, personally, when I run all the settings on 'ultra'. my only concern is can the aurora run this without overheating? since it doesn't come with liquid cooling installed (as far as I'm aware).
My other alternative is ordering all the components separately and buying a compatible tower and do the installation myself. my limit to spend is 1700$.

any advice? or anyone have an aurora r6 that can run these specs? or would building my own be cheaper and run better?

If you want a pre-built Alienware Aurora (with a warranty), I suggest you build it like this:

Intel-i7 CPU, 16gb ram-memory, Liquid-Cooler for main-processor, 850w PS and 512gb PCIe/NVMe-SSD (for Windows-10, all programs, favorite games/sims ). No Optane.

My Nvidia GTX-1070 handles Fallout-4 just fine (Ultra at 1440p).

See this thread and follow the links I posted there.

1. I guess because it's really just a Dell computer. I've bought new computers from all the major companies over the years. Only ones I'm still buying are Apple and Dell (and I suppose high-end business-class HP's are still on the short list).

2. What extra money?

2b. I wonder if you are comparing specs properly (apples-to-apples) ?

2c. Are you using the Dell/Alienware discounts properly? Is cost/term of warranty, and service-offerings similar?

Here is another good "how to config it and why" (on the sales-page) thread:

I suggest going the build route.  The Aurora's are finicky when it comes to RAM, utilize a proprietary motherboard, and have an extremely limited UEFI BIOS.  Since prices have started to equalize, now would be a good time to build from scratch rather than purchasing a Dell.

So, you are using the USA dell.com website?

Did you look at all base configs? Last time I looked, not all are fully configurable.

Yes I’m in Texas, I looked but didn’t see it as an option. Could you provide me a link to one that has the specs and the 850w liquid cooled? I’m ready to purchase when I can find it.

Ahh you were one step ahead (didn’t see that) I’ll check the link in the morning. Thank you for you help brother. I have to say, I wasn’t going to buy an Alienware, but then I read all your forums you’ve posted and commented on. Now I’m convinced it’s worth the buy.
