Aurora R9, NVMe SSD questions, #3

Question

I ordered an Aurora R9 with a 2TB NVMe SSD. Does anyone know what brand is used? I want to add a second one, there was no option to do this while ordering.

Also, seems I will need an adapter to use the second one. Can someone suggest which brand will work well? This is not for gaming but for photoshop and lightroom use for my photography. Just want speed as the files are large and new cameras this year will be even larger.

See my post on this subject here, and the commentary from the community, everything should apply equally to the R9 which basically has the same internals as the R7/8.

Oh that's perfect thank you! Now just need to know which brand comes in the A9 I ordered or just get the 2TB Samsung and be done with it, Or do I need to keep same brand? Thank you very much!!

You can add an additional SSD from a different manufacturer. It's not like RAM where it makes a difference if they don't match.  But yeah, samsung is one of the best brands. But under device manager, if you click on disk drives, it will list what you currently have

Thanks that's good news and figured Samsung was probably the way to go regardless. I didn't get my system yet just ordered a few days ago and delivery is around 3/23 so can't check brand.

Got my R9 and after some trial and error at first everything is working perfectly. I put in a second NVMe on an adapter (Samsung 2TB EVO) and also a 12TB WD Gold so I could keep all my files internal for quick access, also have an external backup. I use this system for my photography and editing. Here is a link to my FB for anyone interested.

Hello @gdecamp, i am in the same boat you were in a month ago. I just got my Aurora R9 with 2TB NVMe and would like to add 2TB more (NVMe). I am relatively new to PC Building, hence any help is appreciated. What adapter did you use? Did you have to change/update storage controller/driver? Did you have to change any BIOS Settings?

That is the adapter I used. All you need to do is plug the new drive onto that card and then plug that into one of the small PCI slots. No other changes are needed. I really don't know much myself just read what someone else did and it worked! lol Good luck!

Mine came with a KXG60PNV2T04 NVMe KIOXIA 2048GB.  My understanding is that is a rebranding of Toshiba Memory.
