The ALX Files: Alien Autopsy | Area-51 R1 Part # List for a Full Restoration

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Area-51 R1 which was released in September 2009. Dell may still be a source for some parts, but they've liquidated most of their surplus stock in & around 2014 when owner warranties expired. I bought my 1st R1 in October 2012 & I've chased down parts over the past 8years to do 5 full restorations. 2013 - 2017, to me, represented the Golden Age of inexpensive freely available parts. These days, while 'most' of the popular new (& good used) parts are still available, some parts are getting harder to find & will continue to do so

Luckily, just about everything inside has a part# tag on it, which u can search

Not every part inside has a part# - & when they don't - it's most likely because it's simply considered 'part of the case' or it's part of a larger 'Assembly' (a small collection of parts sold as one item); that means some parts have never been available from Dell & could only be purchased or replaced from someone who was 'parting out a system'

**Examples might be the bottom foot & bottom cover, Hard Drive Bay Trim, Door Lift Handles, Door Hinges, Front Bottom Plastic Screen & the individual Hard Drive Cages

• If these parts have a part# I can not find them after an 8year search

Other parts that weren't sold separately were often due to being part of a larger 'Assembly', like the top left powerboard (part of the U568R cooling caddy), the black snap-lok cable organizer (part of the 4D1YC mthrbrd tray), Power-On PCB Board (part of U637R Top I/O), top vents motor (part of P701R Activent)
