X51 R2, using one memory ram slot as 16GB

Recently, I tried switching my ram sticks from a 4GB, 2GB to a 8GB, 8GB. Apparently one of the slots messed up when I tried changing them. So one of my slots doesn't seem to work anymore and I can only use one 8gb ram stick. Is it possible to get a 16GB memory ram stick and inserted into one of the slots to maximize the motherboards potential?

Unfortunately no. The largest RAM module you can put into the DIMM slot is 8 GB.

You need to clarify your question since it doesn't make sense. You replaced your 2 sticks of ram with 2 sticks of 8 gb and now have 16 gb total. Sounds fine to me. That is the most ram you can have in your model according to Crucial. https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Alienware/x51-r2
