X51-R3, BIOS 1.2.11, slow start and shutdown
Greetings,
Last night I updated my Bios to 1.2.11 and it is the worst update ever! It usually it takes my PC to start from 10 - 15 seconds. Now it takes more than 10 minutes. I don't know why. By the way, it was running perfectly before the update. But after it takes a really very very long time to shutdown and to start up as i said over 10 minutes instead of 15 seconds. Please Dell fix this issue. Otherwise why did I buy Alienware PC? Isn't it for better Performance? By the way, I tried everything, optimizing, power drain, nothings works!

you are not the only one my friend. I have the same problem also for over a month now. I payed a lot of money for this PC and I'm now afraid to turn it on because of how long it takes. mine does not even shutdown fully, I have to hold the power button to shut it off. which kills me to do it. Dell/Alienware better fix this soon

I am having the same issue, before upgrade no issues now PC taking 10 mins to boot and will not shut down withiout having to hold down the power button. I have tried after disconnecting all peripherals but no change. This is the worst PC experience since I moved to alienware machines 7 years ago. Come on Dell, you have known of this problem for 10 weeks and still no new BIOS version!!!

First make sure you have the latest drivers installed. The BIOS may depend on newer driver builds. I recommend you get the drivers direct from the Support website instead of using SupportAssist Agent. Next check and see if Fast Startup is enabled or disabled under the Power Options. If it's enabled disable it, reboot and then re-enable it. If it's disabled then enable it and reboot.

3. Another good tip. While it shortens Startup a bit, I've found it also extends Shut-Down time. I've found that with a bootable SSD, it has little use and can confuse Command Center initializations sometimes. On Alienware Auroras with boot-SSD, I keep it off or disabled.

Hey x51-R3 owners,
I just saw that the x51-R3 supports enhanced BIOS Recovery. That might come in handy.
