Alienware 18 (2013) Flickering Screen (Green and Red pixels)

Hello guys,

yesterday my Alienware 18 lcd panel began with a problem The screen is flickering with red and green pixels, over the screen, including BIOS, Loading Windows, etc.

I've connected an external monitor and Its works fine on it. l 'd already changed the GPU initialization (Discrete and Integrated) through FN+F5 with no effects.

On Alienware Diagnostic Tools, it says that my LCD Panel, is Ok, but its not.

With an external monitor, I can work very well, without problem.

Can you help me?

hello good morning

i have a question if you use your laptoponly on the onboard video chip.

do you still have the artifacts of flickering pixels.

because if i pull out the gtx 680m video card and only run on the onboard chip everything is fine.

so the thing what is left is the mobo i think.

tomorrow i buy a can of anti oxidation and i will give it a try.

thanks for the tips and thinking.

thank you

marcel

If the system works well with an external monitor that means that there is a problem with the LCD and you might need to replace it.

If you are still under warranty and you live within US or Canada you can send me a PM so I can help you with the replacement otherwise you can contact the technical support site in your country so they can help out.

Hello,

not yet. I contacted the technical support and they are sending a new lcd. It may take 5-10 business day. I think it is not related to the mobo, since I can view the image on a external monitor.

I had other problems with this laptop. The first problem was the gpu cards not being detected on the bios. They changed the mobo.

Now, I have this problem. My laptop has only few months of use, and I guess that is time to change to another brand laptop.

This is sad to me, because I ever had considered Alienware as my best laptop brand on the world.

You are welcome.

Did you tested connecting in an external monitor (hdmi)?

Yes, I will update you soon as possible.

it works fine with an external screen.

that is weird and i have changed cable and the screen.

so the only thing it could be is the mobo i think.

i come from holland and it is very expensive to buy a mobo.

i have to buy it from ebay and i have to pay a lot tax to get it into the country.

thanks marcel

Very strange.

If it works fine with an external screen, your GPUS are fine.

If you have changed the LCD and LCD Cable (Exists two LCD cables connected to LCD Panel. One for Wifi, and Lights, and other to Transfer video image) so it can't be the LCD.

But the last thing that i could imagine would be the mobo. But we haven't any alternatives to think. Peharps it can be the cable connector on the mobo side. try to use some anti-oxidant product to clean the connector contacts.

In my country my only alternative to buy anything for alienware is though ebay too. If you think that your tax is very expansive, try to imagine how is it in Brazil, where I live. 75% over the product price.

My alienware was bought in Orlando-FL-USA, and for my surprise came with 1 year of warranty. In four months of use, two big problems! with the machine.  However, for me the Dell support is always a very good experience.
