Alienware Area 51 R2 3 way SLI

The desktop is designed to run up to 3 way SLI but  it is no longer supported by Nvidia? Do you think 3 way SLI will ever by supported again. All the 3rd party high end motherboards have up to 4 slots for graphic cards! Why?

Hi JKTRRT‌,

With the Nvidia 10 series, only dual card is supported. This is strictly related to the design of the card and has nothing to do with the computer. So, even if the computer supports 3 way SLI, Nvidia does not. If you need more information about this, you can contact NVIDIA directly.

I think its design, power and performance related. A single 1080TI is faster than GTX980 SLI.  It also uses as much power as 2 980's.  So they don't want to burn up systems by trying 3 way 1080TI based on the performance and power profile.

I have 3 Titan Xp's was kinda hoping to find a way to fill that 3rd graphic

card slot and make it work. Maybe one day 3 and 4 way SLI will be supported

again. I will take the Titan Xp and put in my graphic amplifier to use with

Alienware 17 R4 laptop.

PhysX

hasn't been a separate card for a long time.  Nvidia adds this as a software feature for the latest cards and drivers.

There are also

Sure. It should benchmark good? I know the 4 lanes is not the best. Do you think 3 and 4 way SLI is dead forever? I will most likely use the 3rd slot on my Alienware Area 51 R2 for a 1 TB Samsung Pro M.2 mounted in a Aquacomputer M.2 PCIE adapter.

hard to tell without my Crystal Ball. my Guess would be a No.
current Titan can run games at 4K without SLI. Volta GPUs are rumored to be even faster which makes 4K @ 144 Hz Gaming possible. and if not then Dual SLI will be enough for sure. Tripple or Quad SLI will be only useful if you want to go with Tripple 4K @ 144 Hz Monitors. it will cost around 10000$ and not everyone is willing to pay that. so the Market is small. besides, SLI is not as Popular as it was few Years ago. People like stronger Single Cards instead nowerdays.

installing an M2 SSD is a great Idea. take a look at this Thread here:

Area 51 R2: Where is the M.2 slot on the motherboard?

That's the same setup I have the 960 Pro with the Aquacomputer PCIE Adapter

with the heat sink. It is worth using for my boot drive? It is a shame that

Dell didn't put a better motherboard in the system. The MSI Godlike Gaming

motherboard would really compliment my system.

my A51 Boot Time is Average due to long Initialisation Process. the Area 51 lags BIOS Fast Boot feature. additionally i disabled Windows Fast Boot because  it kept messing with Background Processes during Shutdown

but you should of course install Windows on your M.2 Drive. the Reasons are obvious i think.

i agree. better Motherboard would be nice. i really really really hope that the Area 51 x266 Board turns out to be good.

Do you think it is going to be possible to swap our X99 motherboard for the

Alienware Area 51 R4 X299 motherboard?
