Im going through dell tech support to not only purchase but also to assist me in the installation of an ssd drive to my R3, so they do service alienware. Maybe call Dell support back and talk to a different agent. That worked for me with my previous Dell. If I got an answer I didn't like I would call a few times and talk to different agents and see if you get a different answer. Very often you will.
Oh I guess I better add I sprung for the primo warranty - the one where you only talk to a guy in the US and you get to choose which guy is your personal agent until the day you die (or your warranty expires). Once the ssd is delivered Im supposed to call him to set up an appt so he can walk me through the installation, which I will do.
Just buy the drive from a good online vendor. Youll get it MUCH cheaper. It will not void the warranty of your Alienware as long as you report the changes you made to the PC. This drive wont be covered by Alienware but it will be covered by the manufacturer which in my opinion is even better. They can assist you in setting it up just like Alienware would. You would save money this way and have much more upgrades to choose from.

Call Alienware instead of dell at 1-800-ALIENWARE. This is still 2 different company.

This warranty Cost more but it's kind of cool.
