Alienware™ High Performance Liquid Cooling

I had a question on this option for Aurora (Not the New Aurora).

Is this just CPU cooling?  Is there any maintenance required (changing out the fluid, etc)?

Any reliability issues?

Thanks.

I was looking at these.

I am guessing this is R6.

1. If not R7, which one then (R1-R6) ?

2. Yes

3. No, it's a sealed-system. Doesn't hurt to blow-out or vacuum radiator and fans about one a year though.

4. Some users have reported a few with older (R4) units over the years. On the other hand, I still have the original Asetek-made LQ in my Aurora-R1, and it works fine.

Yes, Aurora-R6. I have one it's nice.

Yes, get it with the Liquid Cooler and 850w Power Supply.

They use the latest version of the Alienware Liquid Cooler (made by Asetek, like all the others over the years).

You don't think 460W is enough?  Or do you recommend 850 for future upgrades?

Too bad their Black Firday offer deals only come with 460W.

Personally, I think 460w is barely enough for a baby non-gaming desktop.

Configured with an Intel-i7 and a Nvidia-1070 or higher, you want the 850w. Even with lesser inside, the 850w will still run cooler because power-supply isn't stressed as much.

Finally, I don't think the 460w uses Modular cables like the 850w. I know the 850w is a "Modular Power Supply" as they call it.

Buy what you want, but the nicer configs should come with their own "Instant Discounts". Those are real discounts.

Do you think Alienware is worth the premium over similar spec'ed XPS?

Better parts?

They are both nice. I used to buy XPS models (a XPS-410 was my last one). It's not so much that the parts are better, it's that you can't elevate a XPS to the same specs as an Aurora R6/R7. An Area-51 R2/R3/R4 goes even higher.

AFAIK, you can't get 850w PS or Liquid-Cooling in a XPS. An Intel-i7 really needs Liquid-Cooling, in my opinion anyway.

Also, no Dual Graphics cards are allowed. I think even a single GTX-1070 on a 460w-PS is pushing it. GTX-1080 on 460w is really pushing it and not even a valid config per Nvidia.

Obviously, no Lighting and some other stuff. I think it just depends on what you want inside and what you want the case to look like.
