Alienware m9700 64bit drivers for windows 8?

I have an as people want to call it old m9700 bought in 2007.  I can run vista 32bit, and windows 8 32 bit no problem.  My problem is that I can not find one audio driver for windows 8 64bit.  Any clue as to whether there is a 64bit driver that works under windows?  I understand dell wants to claim this m9700 is not certified, but for $3500 that I paid for this system I know it is still viable even with it's age.  I am fine with the Bluetooth, cam, and touch keys for media center not having drivers.  I have everything with NVidia and sli for windows 8 64bit.  I just need my sound to work so I can develop apps in windows phone 8 sdk.  It will only run under 64bit windows 8.  Any help is welcome and thanks.

Hi jgraves1107,

Alienware m9700 has not been tested on Windows 8 Operating system. However,  I request you to do a complete Windows Update which installs all the updates required for the computer including drivers.

If this doesn’t work, I request you to go to device manager and update drivers by following the below steps:

(1) Click on start

(2) Type Device manager in search box and hit enter.

(3) Right click on the device for which you need a driver and click on update driver.

If this also doesn’t work, I request you to use the Windows 7 64-bit driver, if available.

I also suggest you to run the driver in compatibility mode by following the below steps:

(1) Right click on .exe file, select properties.

(2) Click on Compatibility tab, check ‘run this program in compatibility mode for’ option.

(3) Then select operating system.

I hope this answers your questions.

I am having the same problem. I have tried countless drivers but to no avail. I also cannot find the win7 x64 drivers as the alienware knowledge base seems to have been deleted. Please help! Thank you.

Hi darktwinkle,

I request you to try the steps mentioned by me in the above post and if they don’t work I am afraid there is no other option.

i too have an Alienware m9700, it will not work with win 7 64 bit,,, all the drivers are wrong. I have installed win 7, win 7 pro, 32 and 64,, if you do updates , turn off the nvvidia update, it will turn the screen off, and you have to do a roll back to get it to come back up, do that from the safe mode,,, other than that, win xp, 64 pro or in xp media center is your best bet,,, dell did have a reboot set for this system, for around 10 or 15 dollars, but check for avail. before your reboot, if not IT IS A <ADMIN NOTE: Profane word removed per privacy policy>
