Building/customizing an area-51 machine. need info on specs
All,
what is the specific model number of the current area-51 thats on dells site? the top of the line one?I see R2 R1, etc in search but i dont know if info on those threads are the same for the latest model.
specifically, I am looking to see what type of memory is compatible with this machine. the top of the line category only goes up to 32gb and i want 64, so i should be able to source that locally.
also, i am only getting one graphics card (the founders one) and would like the option to get another one. if i just build with one card, will there be empty slots in the case for another graphics card?
this will be my first alien computer so i am not aware of its trim versions.

The current model is the R2, it has 5 Pcie slots in total, and 3 of them are suitable for double width Graphics cards.
the other two could be used for network cards or wifi, even pcie storage (don't expect to be able to use it as a boot drive however, dell hasn't allowed that)

Mine says the model in the system info screen . Probably r2. Thres plenty of slots for Graphic cards, and anything else u want to install. IDK the #'s for the RAM installed. It should say in your bios if u open to it. (brand ?) AW is a good choice

R2. Thank you. I dont currently have the machine and am customizing one and wanted to get 32gb of additional ram and a beefier 3rd party psu.
I am ASSUming "X51 R2" is the latest vs the alienware "area - 51 r2"?

The x51 is a different machine altogether, it used to be called the andromeda, then the x51, no it's retired.
The aurora r5 is kinda it's replacement.

seems the area 51 has the 8 core processor as an option and the r5 does not. i went with the area 51 anyway... :)
one last question: ram.
would this crucial 64gb ram work in the area 51?
