CMOS Battery for X51 [Early 2012]

Question

The CMOS battery in my Alienware X51 [Early 2012] appeared dead as the BIOS wouldn't hold the settings. I searched and was unable to find the part # anywhere so I did a general search for Alienware CMOS batteries with proper voltage. I found a supplier on eBay but the connector was slightly smaller. So I spliced the wires and installed it. The BIOS is still not not retaining the settings as I have to [F12] and set the proper boot device even though I have reset it in the BIOS multiple times.

If anyone knows where I can order the 'proper' CMOS battery for the X51 [Early 2012], I would appreciate it.

Both of those sites appear to be strictly Alienware Laptop part companies as I could not find anything for the X51 desktop series. Would you happen to know the 'actual' part number for the CMOS battery for the Alienware X51 [Early 2012] system?

Not sure what is going on here, but ... CMOS batteries in desktops are usually fairly common and easily replaceable.

I suggest you post good pictures of the old (original) one, and text description of any legible text or markings.

Thanks. Looks like it's either an out-of-date product or simply no longer available anywhere. I have just spent the last 20 minutes looking at various sites from searches for this part # as well as 'cmos battery x51', 'cmos battery alienware desktop', and 'battery alienware x51' with no luck other than one site that 'seemed' to have the correct part but they wanted over $40 for it and it's just a simply 3v lithium battery which I can get for $6 and change out myself. Guess that is what I will have to do unless you have a good source that has it for sale.

So I have tried to fix this four times without success.

I unplugged the original CMOS battery, waited 5 minutes, replugged, rebooted, updated settings, logged in, shutdown, and on reboot, the changes I made to the BIOS were not saved.
I purchased a compatible battery from Best Buy, cut up the original CMOS battery enclosure and replaced the battery. Did same process to change the BIOS but the settings were not saved.
I purchased a replacement battery but when I got it, the connector did not match up. So I spliced the wires and reconnected. However, the BIOS settings were not saved.
I purchased a 'valid' replacement battery via the link above (connector matched) but, again, the BIOS settings were not saved.

The BIOS has been updated to the A14 version so at this point, I'm a bit lost as to why it will not retain the BIOS settings so I have to use [F12] to specify the correct boot device.

Does anyone else have a suggestion?
