Dell Outlet Alienware laptops do not get the secondary HDD bracket
As the tite says, why are outlet alieanware laptops such as M17x3's missing the interposer to add a 2nd hard drive, but usually come with the brackets installed? Retail R3's come with all this hardware (including the interposer) even it they order their system with a single hard drive. For reburbs, tech support is telling us we have to order this kit..
- 1 6H7T5 Assembly,Bracket,HDD,Second,M17XR3 $6.99
We are going through trying to get the correct part (interposer) to add our 2nd hard drives. But for the last few people on the NBR forums, they got everything in the kit to mount a 2nd hard drive but the interposer (which is what they callled to get).

I just wasted 2 hours on the phone with different techs in order to try to get an interposer sent to me, only to get the same thing sent to me as the last few people in the link above. I really hope it does have the interposer, but I am really doubtful so that is why I am here making this post. I want to get some visibility on this.

I too am interested in seeing this question addressed. Owners of single-drive "certified refurbished" M17xR3 systems are experiencing difficulty obtaining the necessary hardware (including the interposer) to add a second hard drive to these systems.
According to Dell's website, "certified refurbished" systems are "fully refurbished systems, retested and repackaged to meet original factory specifications." Without this essential hardware, these systems do not meet original factory specifications.

After reading this i took the cover off my refurb'd m17xR3 and happy to say mine has the caddy and adapter in the empty hard drive socket so its not all refurbished models. If i were you i would call and complain of missing hardware and if they don't want to accommodate then tell them you want to speak to their manager and tell him about it. The squeaky wheel gets the greasing. good luck

Tech support claims that if your system wasn't ordered with 2 hard drive you have no right to the hardware for the second drive and have to buy it. Retail systems come with it. And these are factory refurbs and supposed to be exact as betashave said.

If the original purchase only came with one hard disk drive, we do not include the second hard disk drive bracket and interposer. This was a cost cutting measure on our part. You will need to purchase the part.

I am also trying to get this Interposer for my second hard drive. I have ordered the kit numbers 6H7T5 which has been postponed twice and is on back order which probably won’t be in for another week or so. Do you know if they have started adding the Interposer board to this kit or am I going to have the same problem everyone else is having? Do I need to cancel this order and call for this part number 8F9T8? Please let us know what part number to order.

Good luck. Mine kept getting delayed for over a month. I spent hours on the phone trying to explain to techs what I need, and what was happening with my order. They are all pretty much clueless, don't waste your time on the phone. Try to get in touch with Chris on this forum, or email support explaining the whole history of your problem and copy micheal_dell's email address, and someone will probably call you back that will be glad to try to help you.
Key word is try. I now have about 5 interposers for R1/R2's (which don't work in R3's), and 2 extra hard drive brackets. Which cost me about $16, 5 hours worth of phone calls, lots of posts on forums, and emails. In the end, I finally got 1 thanks to Chris. And the only way to get one seems to get a hold of a complete 6H7T5 kit. Seems sometimes you just get the hard drive bracket. Maybe you'll have better luck :)

Hi Chris,
I am actually trying to get some information about this issue, however I have two (2) laptops that were purchased retail which didn't include the 2nd HDD hardware or interposer. I was under the impression they would when I purchased the PC's and now that I am wanting to install a new drive in each I am unable to. Can you advise me on this?

I had issues with the Outlet in general, unable to clarify what was in and not in the systems. My first idea was to buy a 'cheap' AW which I'd pass to my mother when I bought a new one.
The sales people was unable to confirm if the AWs even had graphics cards or not, just kept telling 'they have whats listed' but many didn't even list the screen type/res, so can I assume their is no screen just the bazel ?
Its a little facetious of me, but if its not listed, and they ship only what's listed, then clearly I need a full list of an item.
I decided to buy new after many many calls. Now it seems the refurbs are more reliable as many are, I guess burned in.

Hi Chris,
Tt is possible to order the Part 6H7T5 HDD Bracket Assy (Secondary/Kit) to be sent outside the US or to order from an authorize reseller in Uruguay or Argentina. If now I have a friend in the US where do I order this online so I can send it to a friend of mine. Thanks

Sorry for keeping this thread alive again, seems that this was created last 2011. anyway im having the same problem with the dell tech support. since i dont have a choice, they asked me to pay for the interposer. they even informed me that since i only bought the M17x R4 with single HDD, they said it doesnt come with interposer ( but it came with a bracket ) its just crazy, simple part. dell cant even give for free. btw, im from malaysia.

Hi Glen, let me know if you are able to get one since the one that I bought from ebay it was from UK seller. If you are able to get one, please let me know I would be happy to pay for an extra one if you could ship me one.
Since Dell is cleary not doing nothing about this. Thanks Glen.
